BOSTON (CBS) — In a glowing report citing education, health care, and the economy, US News & World Report ranked Massachusetts the best state in the nation in a study released Tuesday.
“Its vibrant academic environment, innovative and supportive health care policies and modernizing economy, measure for measure, make this small New England powerhouse with a population of 6.8 million the strongest state of all,” the study reads.
Basically the U.S. News company compiles seven metric fucktons of data every year to try and empirically rate each U.S. state on a multitude of issues. The rankings were just released earlier today, and the top 5 might shock you.

Rounding out the top 5 listings:
1) Massachusetts
2) New Hampshire
3) Minnesota
4) North Dakota (lol what the fuck)
5) Washington
PA made #30
not surprised
RIP bible belt
Maryland #8 yesssss
save for north dakota that order isn't too shocking
i'm okay with being #11
honestly I wouldn't have expected New Hampshire, Minnesota, or North Dakota on there. I figured they were doing alright, but I wouldn't have thought "top 5"
Numbah 9
lol Louisiana
Hey, my state isn't dead last in anything at least.
North Dakota being 4 doesn't surprise me. Mostly everyone here is pretty nice
How tf is Jersey above PA?
There is literally nothing that Jersey has going for it.
What did they exclude Pittsfield from this study? They couldn't even afford busing for public schools let alone any sort of extracurricular activity. I can't imagine the teaching staff got much in the ways of supplies or pay either.
Connecticut should be lower, it sucks here
Maryland #8 yesssss
fuck yeeeee top 10
NC in dead middle at #25. I guess we are a "ehh" state.

Please, living in a dorm at PA for college from NJ is awful. There's nothing here and anything that is here is shitty. Nearby cities are ghetto as hell and your roads are atrocious. NJ is shitty if you're from the north eastern part but everywhere else is really nice. Surprised we have #2 in education but I'll take it.
Florida barely makes it onto the upper half of the list lol
love seeing my state now ranked 49 instead of 50 like usual, were moving up! :disappoint:
Really pleased to see New Jersey's position, I know some people will still try to wise crack about it though.

How the fuck is New York behind yall, smh
Indiana #22, I'll take that. We're somehow #1 in government, how's that work?
all i've taken away from this list is that the south is a hell world
Huh we're 6 this year.
lol Louisiana
so much for 'thank god for Mississippi'
Illinois is #29
our government is ranked #47 lmao
I think I'll stay working in Georgia for a few more years before going back home to Louisiana....
I thought Arizona would be lower than #34 tbh

It really is, here in NC our representatives line their pockets with coal and oil money and literally ignore their constituents.
17th is where we belong tbh.
Also, the state with the most weed has the best economy. :zing:

Have you ever been to the Greater Philadelphia area?
I agree with the roads part, but there is a lot to do around here in Philly.
