My computer is not recognizing my new hard drive. I am performing a fresh install of windows onto it, and the HDD is a Hitachi Desktar 300gb. My mobo is Asus SK8V. When i try to install it, it is not seen in the BIOS, and Windows XP install say hdd is not recognized, we will restart your computer in 15 seconds. Is there any way to fix this?
Tried Jumpers, tried formatting, tried different HDD, didn't work. Can the Mobo SATA slots not work, because the HDD is spinning
Found 2 more slots, when i use them i get the error "Hardware initiate fail, please check the device", "The bios does not be installed"
Has it worked before?
Yes, it worked on my brothers computer. I'm changing from IDE to SATA for the reason of the SATA drive being larger

This article. It's the solution to your problem. It's saved me hours and hours of labor.
Basically the XP installation doesn't recognize SATA. You have to download your motherboard's RAID drivers and insert them into your own custom XP boot CD.
It's a little confusing at first, so if you have any questions post them here.
