Mega founder Kim Dotcom has saved Christmas for many Playstation and Xbox gamers. In what he describes as a Christmas Miracle, Kim Dotcom appears to have stopped Lizard Squad's DDoS attacks by handing out 3,000 vouchers for premium Mega accounts, worth $99 a piece.
Source: TorrentFreak
I still don't understand why Twitter doesn't just ban the LizardSquad account
Simple, but effective.
Can I ddos people too now to get free shit?
I still don't understand why Twitter doesn't just ban the LizardSquad account
Probably because they don't want to be targeted.
I still don't understand why Twitter doesn't just ban the LizardSquad account
I think the biggest problem is that media outlets name them, giving them the attention they're after.
hero

And now they've decided Tor would be their next "victim" by spinning up Tor relays on Google Cloud :v: Supposedly they have a 0day Tor vulnerability but until they've proven it, I don't think they really know what they are doing with Tor. Weren't these piece of shits doxxed?

GG Lizard Squad, you're all going to end up v&. Or worse.

So, he's handing them over vouchers with unique IDs that they will use on their Mega accounts. With the database remembering which codes they used. With Kim probably remembering which codes he handed out. So basically, if they use them, he will know their IPs, and if they are dumb enough to put actual shit onto Mega, he will get to see their stuff.
Make sure to hand accounts created with those vouchers over to authorities wink wink
He'd probably be more inclined to do that if those same authorities didn't dedicate the past 3 years to destroying his life.
The internet is letting some 16 year olds manhandle them.
This is a pretty good approach to be honest. If they continue regardless, then the vouchers just get terminated so it's an incentive not to.
You shouldn't hold onto exploits on tor considering its use.
Holy shit. Thank you Kim Dotcom! No wonder Battlefield was working today.
I think this is going to do more bad than good. It's bad enough that they get so much media attention, now they know people are ready to give them free stuff if they stop.

No matter how smart these kids think they are, the NSA has hundred of thousands of analysts that can easily trace them back.
He'd probably be more inclined to do that if those same authorities didn't dedicate the past 3 years to destroying his life.
Seriously. Him handing lizard squad to police would be dumb as fuck seeing as same authorities were and still are bumfucking him. If anything it would be in his best interest not to cooperate with authorities. As for hackers, I bet they will sell the vouchers.
I still don't understand why Twitter doesn't just ban the LizardSquad account
They have, several times. But they keep making several new ones.
No matter how smart these kids think they are, the NSA has hundred of thousands of analysts that can easily trace them back.
If that was the case, wouldn't cyber crime be nonexistent?
I still don't understand why Twitter doesn't just ban the LizardSquad account
They did, but they just switched to a new one.
If that was the case, wouldn't cyber crime be nonexistent?
I don't really think the authorities are on it right now, thats the thing. This isn't a high-profile attack, its just huge DDOS. They are more likely to be looking for the botnets they are using, and using the Lizard Squad's interactions to find even more criminals before making a bust. Remember, they like busting big rings rather than 15 year olds.
I guarantee if this outage happens again when Bloodborne comes out, there will be riots in the street.
