Are the ports for Windows file and printer sharing opened? Did you enable file and printer sharing in the Network settings?

Its in the Windows Firewall settings. Although if you enabled it in the menu, it should have opened those ports automatically.

i tried making passwords on the computers and it got me a window asking for username and password and when i enter either comp's credentials i get this

i managed to get my files using windows easy transfer... would have been way quicker to use \\ though
i'd say you're entering your credentials incorrectly
are you entering the username as \\REMOTEPCNAME\usernameyoucreated? or just as the username?
think about it, what are you logging into, MINI-TOWER, or the other PC...

I tried both user acct name and the pc's name
