I got Dawn of War in some bundle a while back and I liked it, probably going to try to talk some of my friends into buying it.
Should I buy any of the expansions and/or sequels? There are a lot of them and I'm not sure which (if any) to get.

Dark Crusade (DOW1) and Retribution (DOW2) are the best (standalone) expansion packs. Much better than the vanilla games.
Winter Assault is alright but it doesn't like widescreen monitors.
Avoid Soulstorm, it's pretty terrible.
Avoid Soulstorm, it's pretty terrible.
unless you want to go absolutely balls out and play the Ultimate Apocalypse mod
UA is the greatest mod for DoW, buying Soulstorm is worth it just for that.
For vanilla DoW, Dark Crusade is king for me.
For story, you get DoW1 and Winter Assault.
For the most solid base multiplayer/skirmish, you get Dark Crusade.
For the best mods (like Ultimate Apocalypse) you get Soulstorm; honestly, SS is worth getting for the mods alone. Boreale is just a nice bonus.
As far as DoW2 goes, just get Retribution. Like, seriously, there's no reason to get the first 2, especially since GFWL shut down.
I enjoy the campaigns for DoW2 and Chaos Rising much more than the Retribution campaigns.
They also updated the original Dawn of War games to no longer use Gamespy, I think they use Steam now.
However they also removed the direct connect option... I hope the online actually works.

Aaaaaaaand they didn't patch Soulstorm to let it use more than 2 gigs of RAM and patching it yourself makes it not launch. Playing Ultimate Apocalypse doesn't really go too well when the game crashes when it reaches 2 gigs of RAM usage.

GFWL will be removed and replaced with Steamworks in very near future.
Also I don't think you can play original DoW2 and CR campaign in Retribution.

Dawn of War II has probably the best RTS campaign you'll play, with some great RPG elements. Chaos Rising is also fantastic, albeit not with the greatest ending.
Retribution is damn good, but they had to really simplify the campaigns in order to split it into six different ones, so you won't get quite the same amount of depth.
I highly recommend DOW2 with all the expansions. I seem to have a different opinion than most people because I prefer DOW2 over DOW1, I just find it to be more fun.
How the hell are you supposed to beat the final boss in CR without stunning him in place and shooting him with the orbital laser? He takes hardly any damage from anything and gains back his massive amount of health by taking yours
