Syrian snipers appear to be targeting pregnant women, according to a British surgeon who has just returned from the conflict zone.
David Nott, who spent five weeks volunteering at a Syrian hospital, told The Times newspaper the gunshot wounds he had treated also indicated that bored snipers were targeting particular parts of civilians' bodies in a bid to entertain themselves.
"One day it would be shots to the groin. The next, it would only be the left chest," he told the newspaper.

Double Kill
A woman pregnant with triplets was walking down the street when a masked robber ran out of a bank and shot her three times in the stomach. Luckily the babies were OK.
The surgeon decided to leave the bullets in because it was too risky to operate. She gave birth to two healthy daughters and a healthy son.
All was fine for 16 years, and then one daughter walked into the room in tears. "What's wrong?" asked the mother.
"I was taking a tinkle and this bullet came out" replied the daughter. The mother told her it was okay and explained what happened 16 years ago.
About a week later the second daughter walked into the room in tears. "Mom, I was taking a tinkle and this bullet came out." Again the mother told her not to worry and explained what happened 16 years ago.
A week later her son walked into the room in tears. "It's okay" said the Mom, "I know what happened, you were taking a tinkle and a bullet came out."
"No," said the boy, "I was playing with myself and I shot the dog..."
Okay, what reason do they have for this? This is pretty much text-book terrorism.

Man this is the third time I have heard something horrible that the "syrian snipers" are doing. Either they truly are the most awful people in the world who do the worst things imaginable for little to no logical reason, or someone wants me to think that way. Given past propaganda techniques i'm leaning towards the latter here.

Man spends 5 weeks at a hospital, has a hunch that syrian snipers are playing games with their targets. So that gives someone enough evidence to publish an article claiming that 'syrian snipers' are intentionally targeting pregnant women? Where is your proof to make such a claim?

pretty much sums it up, when someone is in a position of total power, and has no real oversight they WILL abuse that power. Sniper is set loose in a city full of non-combatants, is bored and has no oversight, the study shows that he WILL go and start shooting random people eventually.

Uh, this image is not from the article. It's probably fake, also.
Bullets from rifles like this don't just lodge themselves inside soft tissue, especially not in the core/lower abdomen where a baby would be located. They go all the way through, or they at least tumble and/or fragment if they don't.

Does it really matter? Warfare in and of itself is an atrocity, and the only difference between wars is the degree to which things like this occur.

The war's gone on long enough that I imagine most factions have lost their moral compass long ago.
Article seems kind of dumb.
How do they actually know they're doing it because they're bored? Did they ask any of them or is it just conjecture?
Additionally the whole aiming for certain bodyparts thing seems like a total load of bullshit to me. You shoot for the center of mass, mainly the torso and if you're fortunate you hit something good; guess which parts of the body are part of your torso? As the range you're shooting from increases the more you're just hoping you hit something rather than hitting specific body parts. He mentions the dozen pregnant women who come in after being shot but doesn't give us a comparison to the other kinds of patients that have come in to show whether they were intentionally only targeting the pregnant women or whether they just got higher numbers of them than usual.
What I'm saying is, you might point to say, two women who come in who have been shot in the uterus, but it was probably coincidental if there's a bunch of other men and women who have been shot in some other part of their torso in hospital too.

Both sides are equally awful at this point.
It doesn't say which side the snipers are on it just says "Syrian snipers" so this could be the work of rebels or Assad's forces

This is new warfare for you. Since WW2 proper warfare has almost become a fallacy, now it's all about killing the civilians and annihilating morale.
