Chinese General Says U.S. Foreign Policy Has ‘Erectile Dysfunction’ Problems
A Chinese general used a regional security conference this weekend to tell a global audience that U.S. rhetoric about the South China Sea risks provoking Beijing.
For the Chinese language audience, the general used language saltier — and perhaps more provocative — words to describe how he feels about U.S. power.
Maj. Gen Zhu Chenghu, a professor at the National Defense University, made the remarks in an interview with Chinese-language Phoenix TV at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore Saturday.
He suggested that if China came to blows with any of its neighbors, the U.S. might not be a reliable ally.
“As U.S. power declines, Washington needs to rely on its allies in order to reach its goal of containing China’s development,” he told the TV station.
“But whether it will get involved or use military intervention once there is a territorial dispute involving China and its neighbors, that is another issue,” he added.
He said that this depended on the U.S. ability to project power, citing Ukraine as an example.
He said, “we can see from the situation in Ukraine this kind of ED” –which he explained in Chinese was a military abbreviation for something that may have meant “extended deployment” – “has become the male type of ED problem – erectile dysfunction.”
Mr. Zhu was one of several Chinese military officials who reacted angrily to remarks of U.S. defense secretary Chuck Hagel, who accused China of taking destabilizing actions in the South China Sea.
Hong Kong-based Phoenix TV has close ties to Beijing and much of its audience is in mainland China.
China’s stance on its maritime claims in the South China Sea has led it into disputes with Vietnam and the Philippines. A standoff over a Chinese drilling rig in waters claimed by Hanoi led to deadly anti-Chinese rioting in Vietnam in May.
Maj. Gen Zhu is no stranger to controversy. In 2005 he came under criticism for remarks that China would have no option but to go nuclear in the event of a conflict over Taiwan. U.S. officials called the remarks irresponsible and the Chinese foreign ministry backed away from them as well.
[t]http://www.military-today.com/navy/ford_class.jpg[/t], trouble containing china's military development? we've got these things sailing out the ship yard for the next 25 years, what does china have, one oil fired hull they bought from the russians
Guy's lucky we don't have Romney in office. We'd have invaded someone by now.
He's right that the US does not want to get involved in military conflict there, but he's wrong on why. By bringing up erectile dysfunction he makes it sound like we can't do it(can't get it up). We don't want to do it. It's a purely political problem, selling the American people on more war.
The ironic thing is by talking smack this way the Chinese solve the political problem. One thing that will cause Americans to back military action is the fear that China has bigger plans than taking some islands. The more they talk about how the US is done and China is taking over, the more Americans are going to think we need to stop them now before it's too late. If China did everything quietly no one would care.

Just look at Iran, North Korea, Syria, Russia/Ukraine.
Where america has tried to push its foreign policy but just couldn't get hard enough.
We, the US, blew our wad on Iraq and Afghanistan. We had a hardon to attack them and we did. Now we are in our refractory period, where we won't have a hardon to fight again for a while. The Russians attacked Ukraine during this time because they correctly guessed that it wouldn't be enough to stimulate us into war again so soon. Iran/Syria/NK are side issues, they are like ugly chicks no one has a hardon for.
China's mistake is forgetting that provocative actions can stimulate the US. It's like they're jamming a finger in our ass and massaging our prostate. We might not like it but next thing you know we have a hardon for war again.

Great analogy, if history and politics were put in these kinds of terms I would be much more stimulated by discussion.

man i love seeing this kind of threads were some americans(and sometimes europeans) make an attempt at being "patriotic"... on a freaking internet forum lol.
btw china has missles that are capable of taking down a carrier.

no you're confusing stuff here, Russia IS the reason why we don't push hard enough with syria .why would we push iran when we have the saudis to do that for us anyways and the sanctions are very very effective. North Korea is just a bottle of cluster-fuck nobody wants to un-cork yet, and no one in the region really has the economy to rebuild them which would be worse than like iraq since it has almost no domestic resources that can be exported. the ukraine problem is evolving too fast for us to really do anything other than connect the dots, build inteligence, and shore up the ukrainian army

chinese made missile.... they only tested like a very few under very controlled conditions, id like to see those work in 20 foot waves or against actual defenses. our carriers have been always at huge risk from soviet carrier-killer weapons before
I think he meant: "Erectire Dysfunction"

SS-N-22's are nothing new, we probably some classified defense against them if since US planners recognize them as them as a threat by now.

I don't see carrier killing missiles as a problem. We have the technology to shoot down incoming missiles and carriers are the most protected part of a fleet.
China has a really small penis.

WWII: America would have happily remained isolationist for the whole war. Then Japan decided to poke it's fingers in our butt and we beat them. Yes a bit too hard, but still.
Same with recent times. The Cold War was over, America figured it would be time to halve our U.S. Defense budget and relax. But then Osama stuck his fingers in our butt, and we got mad and beat them up too.
So what does China think is probably going to happen by sticking their fingers in our butt?
America wasn't fully isolationist though, we gave plenty of weapons to the allies before Pearl harbor. A war with China would be really bad, it would hurt the economy bigger than shit. China can sink our carriers, and we both have plenty of nukes to hit each other with. With that said, China isn't exactly fucking with us, it's just some overly nationalist general who people in China kinda find crazy.
There's a startling amount of ass play in this thread.
