BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. - A 12-year-old girl allegedly hatched a plan to kill her mother for taking away her iPhone. On both attempts, the girl tried to poison her mother with bleach. Boulder County Sheriff's Office Cmdr. Heidi Prentup says the first attempt occurred on March 2, when the girl poured bleach into her mother's breakfast smoothie. The mother noticed the odor and thought her daughter had cleaned the glass but not rinsed it fully. The mother was left feeling ill. On the second alleged attempt, the girl is accused of pouring the bleach into a water carafe in the mother's bedroom. This time, the mother noticed the smell in her water and confronted the daughter. "This is when she learned her daughter had developed the plan to kill her for taking away her iPhone," Prentup said.
http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/front-range/boulder/12-year-old-girl-detained-for-trying-to-poison-mother-twice-with-bleach-for-taking-iphone-away
Why are people so obsessed with their fucking phones
"Waaah! I'm completely ignoring the fact that there are other means such as laptops and desktops and Surface Pro 3s that allow me to go on Facebook and Twitter just fine too but instead I'm going to kill my mom for taking away effectively only the ability to make phone calls!" Like sheesh, facebook.com and twitter.com in any modern web browser works just as fine as the mobile clients. What an idiot.
Seriously. We've arrived to point where sons/daughters will try to kill their parents only for a motherfucking phone. I find it surprising and not surprising at the same time.
I'd bring her phone in and fucking break it in half right in front of her. [editline]20th March 2015[/editline] And then send her to the scared straight program at my local county jail.
Jesus Christ, that girl needs help.
can you press charges against your own 12 year old
can you press charges against your own 12 year old
It says she was charged with two counts if first-degree murder, so yeah.
It says she was charged with two counts if first-degree murder, so yeah.
but was that the state pressing charges or her mother
I think I've heard of similar stories to this before. How could someone do that over a phone?!
I think I've heard of similar stories to this before. How could someone do that over a phone?!
I think it's people acting impulsively without thinking too much about the long term consequences.

It's very unlikely the kid did this knowing full well that if it worked, that'd be the end of their mother and just cause more problems than it could ever solve.

Let's go back to using rotary dial phones Nobody would kill their mother over a rotary dial phone
I've never truly needed a phone. I have an IPod, most places I go have Wifi, and if I need to call someone, I can use someone elses phone, or a landline. The only reason why I would ever upgrade is out of convenience, but I would have to be making loads of money to justify it, since phones and plans are stupid expensive

Imagine how it feels knowing your own child tried to kill you over something to pointless. Like fuck.

That just sounds like some serious Prentup frustration. How do you even think about doing something like that.
it's less the phone and more the child being complete fucking batshit insane
If the kid used the phone constantly and relied on it's use for a long enough period of time he probably grew dependent on it and it's absence could actually have been what caused this. Basically; addicted to using something so far that you cannot function normally without it anymore. Mental addictions can be pretty bad, but under normal circumstances can be gotten over within a short period of time.
12 year olds shouldn't have I phones tbh. Don't know why "kid phones" aren't a thing.
12 year olds shouldn't have I phones tbh. I know gameboys were extremely common in my schools, and unlike a ds or psp this can also be excused as a parental contact device.
Smart people buy Androids. That way their kid gets shamed at school for having a proper practical phone that doesn't fit into society and its obsession with iPhones.
Why are people so obsessed with their fucking phones
There's been similar cases like this over many other material objects like gaming consoles, TVs or whatever else the kids are into. I don't think the fact that it's a phone is very special in this case.
