Since my video card(9800GTX) crashed and burned. I'm in need of a new one. I don't really know much about the market. I have researched a bit, but my knowledge is very limited. The reason I'm asking for help is because i want to be absolutely sure that I make a good pick, so that some other part of my system doesn't ruin the potential of the video card. Or the other way around.
My specs are the following:
OS: Vista
CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9450
RAM: 8 Gigs
Power supply: HuntKey's "HK 500-13BP" with an output of 500 Watts
If I forgot to list something important; just ask.
Also the card doesn't necessarily have to be the best of the best. Being capable of running most of the current gen on highest settings and a couple of the next would suit me just fine.
My budget is pretty much unlimited, but I don't want to give 200$ extra just to get a slight perfomance increase.
Current card?
I hear the 8800 GTS is good.

No way, an really outdated card.
And yet you did not mention G80 or G92.
The 5xxx series just came out, you can get a 5750, a 5770, or a 5850 or 5870. 5870 being probably the best card out right now at only around 330$. :clint:
The 5870 is actually $380 and is the best card you can get right now.
What watts is your power supply?

And as this sir says, what brand is it?
Updated OP with the power supplies name and brand.
How did you like the 9800?
I would simply tell you to buy another.
Or go with 5870, which will be a large increase.
Because I figured. If I have to have the hassle with installing a new card, why not get a better one.
bump
I'm guessing the lack of replies means that the 5870 should be my final pick?
I'd be a bit wary on the PSU but yeah
Nvidia have some new cards coming out next month(hopefully) so i would wait until then.

Uh, let me just get something straight. Does the fact that the PSU can give an ouput of 500 watts mean that it can give out 500 watts in total to the entire system. Or that it can give out 500 watts max to the different components?

Okay just google'd a bit around and found the answer myself. After that I found out how much my other hardware combined used and all in all i shouldn't have any problem running it. Thanks for the help guys.
