A 50-pound vinyl peace sign was stolen from a Mystic playground built in memory of one of the 20 children killed in the Sandy Hook school massacre.
The sign at the entrance to the Grace McDonnell playground was taken Tuesday.
William Lavin, who's "Where Angels Play Foundation," has been building playgrounds to honor all 26 victims, told The Day of New London McDonnell's mother Lynn found out about the theft when the man who apparently took the sign called her.
The thief reportedly told McDonnell he stole the sign because he believes the shooting at the school was a hoax.

(recap of above)
According to the mother, Lynn McDonnell, the man told her that her daughter "never existed."
At least Where Angels Play has ordered another sign.
I think the only thing I can say is that mental health care needs a funding increase by one to two orders of magnitude.
that is so fucked up
Of course he did it by phone. You wouldn't be able to look a mother who went through all that in the eye and say to her her child never existed.
Asshole is probably more afraid that someone will take his gats rather than sorry for the people that had their lives taken
This is like taking enough salt for a week's worth of RT-reading, and rubbing it all in the worst wound imaginable.
I can't even begin to fathom what his exact rationale was.
There's your problem. You assume he has any at all.
Conspiring taken too far. This is why reptile hunters need to stfu and think for a second rather than think about thinking.

conspiracy theorists don't conspire, they have theories about other people conspiring.
also reptile hunters seem quite harmless compared to this guy so i don't mind them
I can't even begin to fathom what his exact rationale was.
Anybody who can become this entrenched in such a fucking retarded conspiracy has completely lost all their abilities to reason and is a massive idiot.
Yet it's the Canadians they call "weird".

am I missing something? who calls canadians weird? I don't understand this post, but maybe I'm dumb.
i like to question everything as much as the next guy but damn, i didn't know people could get this conspiratorial.

No the second amendment ought to be nullified by congress so no more mass shootings can ever occur. This would limit the supply of guns overall thus making it harder for people to obtain firearms that would be used in a mass shooting. Mental health care does need extra funding, but I doubt that current policies will allow money to be allocated towards these institutions.
this guy is a genuine ass hole

Good thing criminals often follow the laws of congress
As the resident gun nut, I'll say this, both sides shut up. Some mother who lost her child to a sick motherfucker is being tormented by some sick motherfucker who doesn't even have the fucking balls to say it to her face. For every tragedy, a conspiracy automatically arises, and thanks to the internet, gets spread like wildfire. These people normally suck because the fact some of them can be downright heartless.

I'm a dingus, can't believe I didn't think of that
What a fucking retard. These nuts should just be shot.

American gun culture

You're not a dingus it was just an extremely obscure reference.

Current policy would allow a constitutional amendment to be nullified but they wouldn't allow increasing our mental health funding?

can someone not just be crazy?
the more likely culprit here is schizophrenia, we may never know his true rationale
can someone not just be crazy?

NO you AMERIDUMB its because GUN CULTURE. The only reason a gun is used for violent anything-that-isn't-sport is gun culture. Always. People aren't crazy, gun culture makes guns go off.
Current policy would allow a constitutional amendment to be nullified but they wouldn't allow increasing our mental health funding?
So what would this ideal "increase in Mental health care funding" do? People are so ready to blame all of the stupid and terrible shit that people do on the "mental health care system" when that's not even the problem The problem is actually convincing people to seek out Mental Health care because after all you can't force anyone to receive mental health care treatment unless they're a danger to themselves or others. There's no possible way in hell that we can catch every individual suffering from a mental illness, because we can't force anyone to receive treatment.

Oh yes, thank you Doctor obviously the most likely culprit is Schizophrenia. How ever did you come to that conclusion? No the more likely culprit here is that this guy is just some conspiracy nutjob. People who suffer from crazy ideas aren't all schizophrenics. There is such a thing as being "weird" when it comes to mental health.
American gun culture
"Liberty! the government is always evil" culture.
NO you AMERIDUMB its because GUN CULTURE. The only reason a gun is used for violent anything-that-isn't-sport is gun culture. Always. People aren't crazy, gun culture makes guns go off.
stop demonizing people with mental health issues as the only violent ones.
normal people are perfectly capable of being violent assholes. in fact most people that murder are normal people. even the ones that use guns. they're generally normal people. the 10k people that die by firearm each year aren't all being killed by the mentally ill. they're being killed by normal people.
face it. there's a cultural norm present in america that guns are cool and are an acceptable means of conflict resolution. if you choose to ignore it you're being stupid. because it's real and it exists.

Do you even know what schizophrenia is even

Me too as I'm sick of everyone calling the police to fix their mental health problems.
God Dammit... I was afraid some dumb jackasses would turn this into a "debate" on guns. I swear half of yall have no idea what you're even talking about. Don't demonize everyone with mental issues because a few really bad cases. Don't demonize gun culture or gun owners. Demonize the individuals who spread mis information and conspiracies on the internet, who prey on the victims of these tragedies. Some people get so convinced of these, that they do really irrational things. They may have underlying problems, or after being introduced to these conspiracies, may have even developed problems. I may go through this later, it's 6am, I'm half asleep and this coffee ain't working...
