Today at San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, announced to a packed house of fans that the Guardians of the Galaxy are coming to Disney California Adventure park!
Beginning in summer 2017, the outrageous and irreverent gang will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! – a comically high-energy, rocking new adventure. Guests will be right in the mix with characters from the blockbuster “Guardians of the Galaxy” films.
Looks like it is confirmed now.
Is that supposed to be an earring or a keychain?

It's both.
We still have the Florida ToT at least....
Oh my god, this is awful news to have confirmed :(

But for how long?
"very funny, very irreverent" "music plays a big role". This honestly blows to have one of the coolest theme rides Disney's done (that I've been on, their out of US stuff seems real cool) be replaced with the dumb-ass quip-filled writing of Marvel set to a background of the most epic of 80s nostalgia jams.

D: They're going to turn California Adventure into Marvel world! I was just starting to love CA as an adult and they go and do this... sad times.
Tower of Terror is a timeless classic because the Twilight Zone is a part of American television history, and Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be a CGI gimmick that gets outdated or irrelevant within 15 years.
Horrid decision

On top of that they're saying there's going to be ToT at the other parks. Why would you remove the ToT when its right next to Hollywood where the people who care about American TV history would be at? Why not change the attraction at the other parks?
It'd be a damn shame if they phase out the rest of the ToTs.
Just recently visited the one in Orlando and I have to say, the atmosphere in the queue, the costumes for the cast members, and the video/special effects played both in the waiting room and at the start of the ride all contributed to a unique and timeless horror experience that you can't really find anywhere else at Disney.

I don't think they'll close the one at Orlando anytime soon fortunately, it'd suck since it's the only ride I love at Hollywood Studios besides the rock 'n' rollercoaster and star tours.
well, atleast i got to ride DCA's version of the tower when i was there last year.
i doubt disney's replacing orlando's version of the tower anytime soon, because they've been pushing the tower as DHS' park icon, in line with cinderella's castle, spaceship earth, and the tree of life, so i think it's safe to assume it's staying (for now, atleast..)

because the people who are running hollywood too will soon forget about twilight zone, it's old now and so are you if you don't want it gone according to the people running these attractions
sad thing is they aren't completely deluded, they probably realize its' artistic values but the dosh
This would bother me more if there wasn't another Tower of Terror being preserved over at Florida.
It would also bother me less if I didn't live in LA. I had just started to really appreciate the ride after beginning to watch The Twilight Zone on Netflix, and it's a shame that it's going to be gone so soon afterwards.
Well at least I got to ride it one last time back in June, still think its stupid that they're doing this.

They legally can't at Orlando since Universal hold the theme park rights to Marvel there

That doesn't mean that they can't replace it with something else. It doesn't even have to be Marvel related.
Anyone here actually visit the Socal ToT? It's pretty underwhelming. So long as the Florida ToT stays where it is, this can only be an improvement.
I loved GotG but this sucks.

"It's pretty underwhelming" speak for yourself. Shitposting's not allowed in this section, btw.
Maybe I'm just spoiled from the WDW one, but I thought it was pretty weak when the elevator didn't do the full transition to the Twilight Zone. It objectively has less content than the WDW one. If they use the GotG rebranding to do some much needed renovating and expansion, I think it'd be a great thing.
DCA's version of the tower was made to save space and money, it IS inferior to WDW's version because of that.
this is mostly due to the ride system being compacted to have all the action take place in the drop shaft, unlike WDW's separate shafts for loading/rising and dropping/unloading.
(for the picture of dca/dlp's tower, the purple dashed area is where the ride shafts are.)

GoTG is apparently a loophole, but it is currently looking like they will come to Epcot instead of Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World according to rumors.

Rumor has it Ellen's Energy Adventure at Epcot is supposed to be replaced with Guardians stuff. Not sure how that would work with it being a 45 minute ride, though.

I could imagine the whole pavilion being demolished to build it. From what I understand, after they remove the remaining animatronics in the dinosaur scene, it is actually a very easy tear down structurally.

Chances are it's going to to be demolished entirely. The ride isn't worth salvaging and from what I've heard from a cast member, the building may have some structural issues.

I always felt like the drops in DCA's Tower were more intense than WDW's one, I could be wrong though.
