[release]WHISTLEBLOWING website founder Julian Assange has broken cover to accuse the Australian government of abandoning him to attacks by the US government. From a location in England the Queensland-born Mr Assange questioned what it meant to be an Australian citizen. As the WikiLeaks chief waited for his likely arrest so British authorities could extradite him to Sweden over allegations of rape and sexual molestation - which he denies - he said he missed his country ''a great deal''. ''However, during the last weeks the Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, and the Attorney-General, Robert McClelland, have made it clear that not only is my return impossible but that they are actively working to assist the United States government in its attacks on myself and our people,'' Mr Assange wrote in The Guardian. ''This brings into question what does it mean to be an Australian citizen - does that mean anything at all? Or are we all to be treated like David Hicks at the first possible opportunity merely so that Australian politicians and diplomats can be invited to the best US embassy cocktail parties.'' It was revealed Mr McClelland has also ordered a taskforce of Australian soldiers, intelligence officers and officials to investigate whether Mr Assange and his organisation had breached any Australian laws. ''The publication of this kind of information is incredibly irresponsible and reprehensible,'' Mr McClelland said. Mr Assange's outburst came as he revealed he had sent the politically sensitive US diplomatic cables obtained by WikiLeaks to 100,000 people and they would be released en masse if the website was brought down. He said the cables had been copied in encrypted form and would be automatically published online if ''something happens to us''. On Friday, WikiLeaks was forced to move to a Swiss internet address after its website came under a cyber attack. And he said he had boosted his security after receiving death threats amid the storm unleashed by his site's publication of 250,000 secret US cables. Scotland Yard and security services know Mr Assange's location, believed to be in south-east England, but have been unable to arrest him because Swedish authorities failed to fill out the arrest warrant correctly. Swedish prosecutors sent another file containing the missing details. Mr Assange's lawyer, Mark Stephens, linked the arrest warrant to ''sophisticated'' efforts to take down the website[/release] http://www.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/australia-has-abandoned-me-20101204-18kpq.html
Poor bastard.
Australia may have, but real Australians like me haven't.
Boo hoo. He knew the consequences. To those rating me dumb: Regardless of how the Australian government SHOULD be acting, they are obviously not going to help him out after what he has done. Yes, I know that technically they may have "abandoned their own", but I thought he would be smart enough to realize that not everything is how it really SHOULD be.
Scotland Yard and security services know Mr Assange's location, believed to be in south-east England, but have been unable to arrest him because Swedish authorities failed to fill out the arrest warrant correctly.
I can hear that guy getting fired from here.
More like Ausfailia
I wish everyone would just ignore him completely. He's getting exactly what he wants: media coverage. I mean, a single man has got the Australian Prime Minister giving a speech about him.
Australia just banned a person.
What the hell was he expecting? Australia's hardly going to support him purely because of his nationality, given everything he's done.
Australia just banned a person.
Garry is still way out in front.
Bud, you aren't a whistleblower. A whistleblower is only out to release information which unveils corruption or illegal activity. You release EVERYTHING. Whistleblower laws do not protect you because you actively aid and abet people in the theft of government property regardless of its effects on the population. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whistleblower_Protection_Act There are laws protecting people who wish to reveal acts of corruption both from legal reprisal and from losing their jobs. But you have to reveal stuff which actually demonstrates corruption, you can't just release bullshit for no other reason than to damage diplomatic relations. While the files do contain corruption, the VAST MAJORITY do not. Had he chosen to release the ones containing corruption then he'd have more support and might actually be able to go home. I mean seriously, how does anyone think it is okay to release EVERYTHING? Diplomats giving candid descriptions of public figures behind closed doors ISN'T CORRUPTION. IT'S PART OF THE BASIC FUNCTION OF HAVING A GOVERNMENT. I'd love to back wikileaks up here in revealing legitimate corruption, but jesus fucking christ they need to approach the topic with a little more finesse.
I like how be blames all of his problems on the U.S. despite even though most of the world hates him right now.
I like how be blames all of his problems on the U.S. despite the fact that he even got Iran mad at him.
Shouldnt matter at all. Maybe Governments shouldnt be doing such risky things in the first place?
I'll welcome him :unsmith:
I'll welcome him :unsmith:
Ecuador welcomes him with no questions asked.
Things are really getting out of control. Whats he going to do, blame everyone on his misfortunes?
to sealand?
Things are really getting out of control. Whats he going to do, blame everyone on his misfortunes?
What misfortunes? Everything that has happened to him has been deliberately done by governments. His home country is working against him, INTERPOL is after him over something stupid, most of the US is condemning him as a terrorist on par with Osama Bin Laden, it is everyone against him.
What misfortunes? Everything that has happened to him has been deliberately done by governments. He leaked the blacklist for the internet filter (Which can't be viewed anymore, god dam), of course the government are going to be angry at him. But they should still help him out.
Not going to argue, but there is no proof that all that stuff that happened to him was the governments fault.
Everything I listed was done by the government so unless they don't have accountability for their own actions, it is governments fault.
Everything I listed was done by the government so unless they don't have accountability for their own actions, it is governments fault.
Actually you just listed what you think. Of course his own country will work against him, they think that he is out of control as well. America may be saying that hes on pair with these guys, but it doesn't mean they did all this shit. Stop making excuses.
Ecuador welcomes him with no questions asked.
No go back and read the thread a random ambassador told him he could stay there without permission from the president or congress. He should just get it over with already and release everything. None of this 1 cable per hour bullshit
so it is confirmed, the insurance file is in fact a deadman's switch loaded with the most sensitive documents they have.
It was confirmed around the time before it was released.
I figured it was speculation.
so it is confirmed, the insurance file is in fact a deadman's switch loaded with the most sensitive documents they have.
I don't think so. You know, the guy spent eight years fighting for child custody, and in the end his hair had turned white due to the stress? I swear to God, Julian Assange doesn't dye his hair. It was stress. The guy is the fucking real life Monte Cristo. :20bux: say the Insurance file is "I love you son" repeated over and over to fit the 1.29 gb mark. Or, alternatively: "Son, your whore of a mother didn't let me say anything to you, not even give you a birthday card. So I set out to give you the best birthday present ever: A world of transparent gov'ments where they serve the people, and not the other way around, where there are no wars, because every government has too much too lose. A Brave New World, another Earth, another sky, for you. And when that day comes, I will be able to say, Happy Birthday, son."

i'd abandon a creepy looking rapist as well
