Used to play Dota 2 but quit because of this very reason.
There are other mobas out there that get straight to the fun, skillful fighting and cut out the extended "build-up" period that kind of defines dota.
And not having surrender option lol
Dota 2 has a garbage community
I played Bioshock Infinite a lot more than I actually wanted to, Burial at Sea pt.2 was at most a week away so I didn't want to delete and reinstall it but it was the only game I had installed that I hadn't completed as much as I could.
Burial at Sea was good though, but after I finished part 2 I uninstalled for good.
I've played Mirror's Edge so many times that I don't even like it anymore.
I used to play Dota but I realized that I don't have a lot of time to play video games these days, and I'd rather not spend it trying to get good at just one game.
Counter Strike.
Played it so much years ago that I can't even stand the sound of the AK now.
Call of duty. It's a piece of shit that comes out every year but I still somehow compulsively buy it.
I've played Payday 2 so much that I hate playing because of how broken and flawed the game is.
The more you play a game, the more easily you spot its flaws.
Played Dead or Alive: Ultimate for the original xbox when I was younger. I loved the game, but oh my fucking God, did I rage and cry every time something didn't go my way. But, my conviction to beat people online through the means of polygons with huge titties was steeled.
Wor of tanks, im glad i quit that game a year ago
Diablo 3 multiplayer was a nightmare but value for money damn it
Somewhat older example would be Gothic 3, I actually learnt how to drop games I don't like because of it (didn't help with diablo 3 though).
Really old example would be Kingdom Under Fire, the Warcraft 2-alike from around 2000 I think? I don't know how I got past those RPG sections but I must have been really good at horseshit back then, because I tried it out again last year and I've never sworn so much in my life.
Total War: Attila
There's just so much wrong with it but I keep coming back because it's the only game that represents the migration period

Opposite for me and dota 2, I kept noticing more and more how really deep and complex it was and how much thinking you needed to do beyond simple reflexive action. What depressed me was the community and lack of a surrender feature (SERIOUSLY DOTA. ADD IT AND I'M BACK.) - so there was more time spend teams complaining to each other (if you mute your teammates you might as well give up) and more importantly, yelling at you for whatever reason. Oh, and good luck playing with 4-5 friends - you need to practice all the time, and bots don't cut it. It's a depressing game that should be fun, but the community overall ruins it.
The sad thing is that the reason they can't add a surrender option for dota is probably because the community is so toxic. You lose one lane and you get a bunch of people shit talking and crying about how the game is over. If there was a surrender option, every game would end within like 10 minutes and if let's say you want to keep playing because you think you can win, your team would probably just report you for not surrendering.
Hearthstone.
It's fun and I love the different cards, card art.
But fuck if it doesn't give you white hot rage after certain bullshit happens.
Looking at the lucky Slyvanis that steals your powerful taunt minion. Or worse your Legendary.

Just make it like CSGO where you can only surrender if a teammate abandons (kicks don't count)
Crusader kings 2, not in the bad way.
more of the way you build your small kingdom, only to be curbstomped by a massive empire.
World of warcraft, love hate relationship if i've ever seen one.

I look back, and I honestly don't know how I managed 372 hours on it (perhaps a combination of my old and shitty PC and a ton of free time for about 2 months). The game is so poorly made it is almost laughable. There are just so many things the developers can't do right.
CSGO's made me unhappy many times! It doesn't help that Valve refuses to update their servers to 128-tick leading to some poor hit registration (which is, surprisingly, a fundamental & important function of the game)
It used to be EVE online for me. Nowadays I'd actually say GTA V. Its multiplayer is a terribly designed and built grindfest of misery and hacking.
CS GO, I just can't stand the shitty community and the fact that valve doesn't really do much to the game besides put some fan made skins in the game and some maps, which are also made by fans.
Dota is probably the obvious answer alongside any moba, really. There's not a single one without a toxic community, you need to have thick skin to enjoy it at times

I've learned that every single game with competitive matchmaking has a garbage community. There are no exclusives.

It takes long to release stuff. It needs careful thinking and testing.
Warframe. 2 years or so non-stop. It's a grind fest, I get tired, but I CAN'T STOP.
And Jedi Academy before it, for 9 years. Everyone's an elitist, community is few and toxic by now, (a couple, VERY friendly players though! Very fun to be around, and swoop race events are great) but I couldn't stop.
l4d2....
csgo and tf2 made me quit gaming cos of how unhappy they made. Turns out I was playing them wrong and now Im having heaps of fun in both. Well heaps of fun in TF2, getting there in cs :v
Civ5 multiplayer
it breaks and crashes so fucking often but it's also one of the only games of its type soooo
