"How to criticise Israel without being anti-Semitic" - that's the title of a blog post that's being widely shared as the death toll in Gaza rises. The blog begins like this: "If you've spent any time discussing or reading about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, I guarantee you've heard some variation of this statement: OMG, Jews think any criticism of Israel is anti-Semitic!" It includes 19 "tips" for anyone who wants to criticise Israel - mainly advice on what to avoid. For example: "Don't say 'the Jews' when you mean Israel," or "Don't say: 'I can't be anti-Semitic, I have Jewish friends!'" It warns against stereotypes, and "expansive language" - such as referring to Israelis as "bloodthirsty". The post also includes detailed discussion of the meaning of the word "Zionist" and much more.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-trending-28444854 http://this-is-not-jewish.tumblr.com/post/34344324495/how-to-criticize-israel-without-being-anti-semitic
It's common sense. It's the Israeli government that deserves the criticism, not the whole religion just because Israel is populated predominantly by those of the Jewish faith.
I think some people on facepunch are going to discredit this for this line:
Genocide, racism, occupation, murder, extermination—go ahead and use those terms, but leave the Holocaust out of it.
I can say or do whatever I please because holocaust. And I'm Polish with jewish grandparents, Israel can fuck off.

The only way to win an argument about Israel and Palestine is to ultimately say that both sides have hardliners that are batshit insane, and that they are stoking people into killing each other.
Nice guide, but I feel like that most people who care already follow most of that. Godwin law and all that.
Pretty sure he's referring to the people who said it couldn't possibly be genocide because the death toll wasn't rising fast enough.
Bingo.
It's a shame Israel was able to give themselves the image of Judaism and get away with it.... So when you criticize Israel, you criticize the Jewish religion and all of its people.

No one can really know who's at fault in this situation unless Hamas stops firing rockets so we can see what Israel would do (which they won't).
I think some people on facepunch are going to discredit this for this line:
Well, it's true. What's happening isn't comparable to the holocaust. If Israel starts rounding up Arab Israelis and imprisoning them en masse we can reconsider.

I think the way to criticise Israel is to be constructive. Acknowledge its right to defend itself, but try to incourage a cleaner way of doing so.
Israel would displace and kill Palestinians until they take over the whole region?
What would Israel's people want from Gaza? From what I've heard- nothing. Hell, throughout the years Israel offered the Egyptians Gaza. Let the Palestinians keep to themselves, Israel isn't ready to exhaust its resources against an insane, resiliant terrorist organisaiton. It's awful for Israel's already shit PR. And far worse for the Palestinians. Change in Gaza must ultimately happen from within, which, given Fatah's weakness to Hamas, is going to take a fuck long time.
The land? They keep annexing it in small chunks anyway.
The land? They keep annexing it in small chunks anyway.
Didn't they pull out all settlers out of gaza?(current conflict+his point in his post is pretty much only Gaza at war with isreal).
basically just don't say 'jews' and don't compare it to the holocaust, use your fucking heads people it's not actually hard to not be an anti-semite
I can say or do whatever I please because holocaust. And I'm Polish with jewish grandparents, Israel can fuck off.
1) You're American. 2) You're not your grandparents.
1) You're American. 2) You're not your grandparents.
Just because he/she lives in America doesn't mean they are American.
