Xbox One commercials turning on Xbones at home via Kinect

Microsoft has trumpeted the voice control capability of the Xbox One as it allows you to interact extensively with the console. With voice commands, you can do many things such as recording a short clip of your gameplay and saving it to the cloud by saying “Xbox, record that”. Another of the rather nifty commands is the ability to turn on your console by saying “Xbox On”.
But it seems there is a bit of a snag with this feature - and a rather amusing one, at that - because when Microsoft airs a commercial that says ‘Xbox On’, the ad is apparently turning on consoles in some consumers' homes.
maybe it was intentional :eng101:
EXBAWKS
i remember a couple of months ago i was in a microsoft store and they were showing the xbox one keynote thing on one of their own xbox consoles and it kept pausing and going back to the home screen after a certain point b/c the kinect commands the speaker was giving was being interpreted by the xbox console that was playing the keynote

This is quite relevant.
I don't know why they didn't include a filter that filters out the audio that's playing from the voice input. It shouldn't be hard, it would be pretty much the same technology they use for noise cancellation in modern phones.
But does it work in Scotland?

That doesn't even make any sense. It doesn't go home unless you say xbox go home to avoid that.

It's a joke, lighten up.
Does anyone even like voice commands?
It's a joke, lighten up.
too bad most of the people posting this on /v/, gaf, here, and reddit think it's irrefutable evidence that the xbox one sucks, not a joke
It's a joke, lighten up.
Sarcasm doesn't translate well in a 140 character piece of text, especially when you word it matter of factly.

Chet Faliszek (Writer of Left 4 Dead and CS:GO) has been posting all week on twitter about how he he loves them.
[editline]yolo[/editline] What the hell automerge?
[editline]nolo[/editline] There's literally nothing here to disagree with, go check his twitter.
Does anyone even like voice commands?
if they work, yeah.
sometimes it's easier to say "who was in taxi driver" to your phone than it is to type the same shit out. also from what i've seen online saying "xbox snap skype" is easier than pressing a button and going through a few menus.
Hahhaha, I remember when this was announced that people joked that this would happen.
When are we gonna hear about people screaming xbox commands near other people's houses.
Does anyone even like voice commands?
I used to not, but says "Xbox, next episode" is so much easier than finding where I threw my controller across the room, turning it on, hitting one button, then turning it back off.
Its 2013 and voice commands is still mostly guessing and making a lot of mistakes.
You obviously haven't used it. If you say the right commands and don't have people talking in the room it is right almost every time.
Imagine if the commercial said "xbox, turn off" :v:

That's still if you have the right accent though.
Imagine me, brownie, saying any of those commands as a normal Indian with the accent would and you'll see a big problem. :v:

wow thats great because when i play games or watch tv im alone 24/7
Imagine if the commercial said "xbox, turn off" :v:
"With the new XBox One, 'wipe hard drive' is one command you'll never have to say because of our expandable storage space"
"Oh fuck wha-MICROSOFT YOU THUNDERCUNTS!"

Its amazing for doing things quickly, this was first attempt as long as you say the correct commands it works.
They also added a confirmation screen when saying xbox turn off.

I tried this at my brothers house. It pops up a notification asking if you want to turn the xbox off so people can't shut it down like that
The voice commands aren't always useful, but they work. I thought the face recognition was way more impressive though. It signed me into my xbox profile and all I had to do was sit down, it has a pretty wide field of view. It switched profiles depending on who was holding the controller
NSA ploy to turn the kinect on, now all they have to do is pay microsoft to run some add time, make sure their perp's TV is in hearing distance of an xbox one then the kinect comes on and boom they can upload virus and kinect turns into a passive bug
[editline]25th November 2013[/editline]
also viruses work now that they are running a version of win8 on the console

i was doing this the other day though when my brother was showing off his kinect on skype, i was able to hang up his end from my end

All it means is that the commercial would need xbox off *pause* yes. Sony needs to make this happen.
Is it possible to yell "XBOX OFF" over a multiplayer game without turning yours off?
That would be the best ever, seeing over half of the game disconnect from the session at the same time
That doesn't even make any sense. It doesn't go home unless you say xbox go home to avoid that.
I've seen videos of the Xbox responding to commands without saying Xbox first
I've seen videos of the Xbox responding to commands without saying Xbox first
You have to start a command with xbox, then after that command it listens for like 10 seconds unless you say xbox stop listening.
Isn't it possible to just unplug your kinect so it won't do this stupid shit?
AFAIK I saw on FB (I happened to check it out to see how much shit they got) that they made an announcement where it says "You can unplug the kinect if you don't want to use it." or something. Could work I guess.
