Hello Facepunch
The situation is as such that I live in Iceland and am thinking of buying a new notebook. I'm absolutely head over heels for the IdeaPad U series from lenovo but the U330 has not arrived in Europe and a trip to the US is out of the question. My local IBM dealer offers both the IPAD U350 SU3500 3/320 and the IPAD U350 SU2700 3/250 which both sport a Intel Mobile GS40 chipset with 1.3 and 1.4 Ghz Solo processors respectively. Of course I find this clock speed to be unacceptable and would like to upgrade to a faster processor and am thinking of the T6400 or P8600, both dual cores. If I could get the dealer to change the processors I would like to know beforehand if the new one will work. So I ask you internet, can I do this or should I have a friend grab one home from the US when he comes to Iceland next. (which could be in a few months)

P.S. Sorry for the TL;DR if you thought it was so.
I think you should get a custom made desktop instead of getting an overpriced laptop.
Either way the laptop sucks.
you kinda defeat 1/2 the perpose of the U series when you put in a p8600 which should work

you really do get what you pay for with thinkpads/ideapads, they do what they are suppose to do stand up to pretty much anything and have good porability

Well I can't really agree with it defeating the purpose. I want to be able to some multimedia work without getting a large clunky computer and I want to keep the price relatively low, besides Lenovo already offers the computer with the 2.4GHz Processor but only in the U330 and not the U350 that is available here.
Buy me a new graphics card, and I will send you my IBM...

They are good for simple things but they can start to lag up.
If you really want a little email and twitter and such I'd say go for it.

wait the U330 has a P7350, which is enough for most multitasking, can you give me a link to what you are looking at

It should be able to accept a P8600 but you will lose your batterylife

It's the one furthest to the left.
If the P8600 is sucking too much battery what would you recommend? I think something around 2.0 GHz duo? Maybe 1.8Ghz? Also purchasing a 6 cell battery and using the 4 cell one as emergency extra power?
Sorry for wasting all this time, I just figured out, like an idiot, that it doesn't have an optical drive and only comes with the grey keyboard surface. Stupid me.
it isn;t that it sucks so much battery is that the solo core is designed for low power long batterylife use.
just get the one in the middle
