Ever since the launch of "Diablo 3," every time I've met with the guys at Blizzard, I've asked them one recurring question: Is it coming to consoles? They've always been cagey, but the last time I spoke with Rob Pardo, the Executive Vice President of Game Design at Blizzard, he said that "Diablo" would be the easiest of their franchises to bring to the console marketplace. And now it seems that they're going through with it! Gamasutra spotted a job posting on Blizzard's official site, looking for none other than a Lead Programmer and a Lead Designer for "Diablo 3" on Console. No platform is listed, but there aren't a whole lot of ways to interpret either job listing, which asks for people with "prior experience in console game development." Another interesting tidbit is listed under one of the Pluses: "Experience with shipping or porting multi-platform games." That could be interpreted in a few ways. One way is that the game will be developed on a single console and then ported to another. Alternatively, it could just mean that the console version will just be a port of the PC version. Personally I believe that a PS3 and an Xbox 360 version is likely, though it's also likely that the console versions won't launch on the same day as the PC/Mac version, since they're only now getting dedicated team leads. But hey, since we don't have a release date for the PC/Mac version, it's really anyone's guess. I reached out to Blizzard to get an official comment on the job posting, and fully anticipate getting something vague and non-committal in response. When I do, I'll happily fill you in.
They're specific in saying that they're merely "exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles", so there's no guarantee it will eventuate, but it's looking mighty promising.
explains why it's all been simplified so much
I think the controllers would be horrible for consoles.
I think the controllers would be horrible for consoles.
It'd be very different to the PC controls, but I can see it working quite well. Nearly all consoles have 2 analog sticks on the controller now days, so you'd use one for moving around and one for camera. All the buttons would be for different abilities and potions and overall I think it will just work.
This is the best news I have heard yet in terms of Diablo 3. Everything else has been pretty disappointing, especially the classes.
Diablo without hotkeys would be hard as shit.
explains why it's all been simplified so much
don't be ridiculous. diablo wasn't anywhere near sophisticated [editline]16th November 2010[/editline] in fact what made it good was its simplicity

Great, now I can't get cautiously optimistic about this because my Xbro fanatic friends are going to rant and rave about it, and shun me because I play the "inferior" PC version!
explains why it's all been simplified so much
Would explain the visuals for sure (semi-cartoony is a lot lighter than realistic shapes and lighting), also would explain the removal of a lot of stuff (stat placement, keys, all that stuff). As long as D3 comes out for PC by it's own, they can make a bastard child on consoles, but if they switch D3 (or D4) to multiplat then I'll go play something else.
actually, games like diablo work quite well for consoles, check out champions of norrath and champions: return to arms, those I think are my all time favorite games made for the console. I can see it working and playing very well and being quite awesome (didn't they make diablo 1 for the playstation as well?), i'm still going to buy it on the PC though [editline]16th November 2010[/editline]
Would explain the visuals for sure (semi-cartoony is a lot lighter than realistic shapes and lighting), also would explain the removal of a lot of stuff (stat placement, keys, all that stuff). This is blizzard people, they'll get it working PERFECTLY on the PC, then if they WANT to put it on the console, they'll port it to that. [editline]16th November 2010[/editline]
explains why it's all been simplified so much
what? if anything, diablo 3 is MORE complex than diablo 1 or 2 ever were, look at the runes and skills system in diablo 3, christ.
But consoles suck..
the removal of ... stat placement
Those bastards. One of my favorite parts of making characters was trying out an odd stat and skill build to see if it could work.
Oh boy, its gonna be like MW2 all over again
Why.. WHY?!
Hmm... Blizzard released Starcraft on the 64 iirc, but they also cancelled Starcraft: Ghost. 1 RTS 1 FPS Lets see how they go with a RPG
Starcraft 64 is a shinning example of why RTS games are not to be played on consoles.
I just want the damn game released jesus christ
"Being made for consoles" is just another way of saying "It's going to be shit".
I don't think Blizzard will ever trim down their PC version so that they can put it on a console. They'll finish the PC version first and keep the console version seperate. Also
exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles
doesn't even mean it's the same game.
Platform(s): Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, PlayStation
Console games are such shit
Are we going to start a console vs PC war here? :smith:
God I hope not
i can't see any way this would negatively affect this game at all seriously you pc gamers jesus
if you can read, if they don't find a team that can do it for console, it's not going to be on console. they're pretty much just toying around with it, it's not confirmed
i can't see any way this would negatively affect this game at all seriously you pc gamers jesus
Obviously you can't see, you played too much dumbed down console games.
Obviously Blizzard is going to turn Diablo 3 into an FPS war game with brown textures and bloom Fucking consoles
It's all a matter of opinion and taste..

Diablo 1 was put on PSX, so this isn't new ground for them at all.
