Given the sheer number of products that get unveiled at each CES, it’s of no surprise that some will shine a bit brighter than others, causing people to do a double-take or drop their jaws. This year, the first product to manage both of those for me is Kingston’s DataTraveler HyperX Predator 3.0, a flash drive that boasts not only a seriously long name, but huge storage. How does 1TB sound?
Let’s put this into perspective. About a year ago, I took a look at Kingston’s first-ever HyperX flash drive, weighing in at 64GB. At the time, that was in all regards impressive – though not quite as impressive as the 256GB offering the company also had. It’s not uncommon for technology to move at such a pace where densities can double each year, but I am not sure anyone expected Kingston to be announcing a drive today that quadruples last year’s top-end model.
Despite its massive storage, Kingston was able to retain a modest size with Predator. The 64GB DT HyperX I mentioned before came in at 2.95″ x 0.92″ x 0.63″. By comparison, the Predator is a tad shorter but also a tad beefier at the sides, at 2.83″ x 1.06″ x 0.83″.
Performance-wise, Predator boasts SSD-like throughput at 240MB/s read and 160MB/s write. These speeds make the Predator not only useful to store large files, but store large files fast.
At Predator’s retail launch, which should take place soon, only a 512GB model will become available. The 1TB model that I’ve been raving over will see its launch later in Q1. Unfortunately, the vital piece of information we’d all like to know isn’t yet available: pricing. Given the fact that Kingston’s smallest Predator offering is 512GB, we have to assume that these will not be consumer-focused, but are instead targeted at the business or workstation user. Either way, for what it offers, I think Predator is aptly-named.
A key chain link for a expensive ass flash drive that's a shock.
read and writes speed are excellent.
bloody hell I use 4gb ones
I'd be nervous as fuck accidentally leaving it somewhere. Such a tiny thing.
I remember back when a 1GB flash drive was bigger than my classmates.
I was hovering over the link for like 30 seconds all confused.
Then suddenly "WHAAAT? FUCK AWESOME"
I cannot even fill my harddrive over 300 gb.
Well decent 16GB one's are cheap as chips nowadays.
Now I can bring all of my linux distros to a friend's house.
I don't think I've ever not lost a flash drive
Now I can store all my porn in a single flashdrive.
Good bye, hard drive.
I'll easily get one of these (The 512GB or 1TB) if the price is right, I've been looking into getting a Portable Harddrive for awhile, but I'd much rather have this.

This won't replace hard drive's, but I imagine SSD's will do that.
Sadly the pricing of this thing will probably be near the 1k+ area.
Man, If I had that, I'd dedicated it to windows readyboost
1TB Virtual Ram
I still have a 512 MB one

Sorry to stomp on your dreams, but there's a very good chance this thing is not faster than your current HDD. Readyboost only turns on if it's quicker.
ughghhg
I couldn't even imagine 10GB flash drives, let alone a 1TB flash drive
holy ka bibbles
I still have a 512 MB one
16 MB here, came free with a game.
This could be really useful though, especially with USB record on TVs, assuming they would recognise a drive that large. Personally, I use a 16 GB one for that, and a 4 GB one for work.

My hdd is pretty slow, I already use readyboost.
I bought a 16 gb flash drive that was no bigger than half and inch for $10 a few weeks ago and I was fucking amazed.
I got it as a gift though cause I wouldn't trust myself with something that easy to lose.
Honestly ever since google drive/docs that you get for just having a gmail I've not used flash drives in years
The only thing I ended up putting on my flash drive was school work, design projects, and project assignments, all of which turned out to be quicker and easier to just upload to google drive/docs. Plus its impossible to lose since you can just log in anywhere
Granted if I was still doing big design or video projects for school, with over 300-800+mb per project, I'd still use a flash drive since at that point the upload time or the sheer number of files ins't worth trying to upload it to drive/docs.
Kinda old news. I knew about it for awhile, they had a preview about during one of the LoL or Starcraft 2 events, don't remember which. I just know I remember trying to find it a few months back and not being able to find it on their website.
I'd expect it to be at least $1000 but I wouldn't be surprised if it were $2000 with those read and write speeds.
I could fit my whole steam library on this and my iTunes, actually. It'd be great for backing stuff up.
I stopped using flash drives because they always ended up broken .
Its bigger than my harddrive...
Is it just me or are kingston hardware names really retarded? "HYPER X PREDATOR" "HYPER X BEAST"

I have some "Data Taveler"'s and I think that's actually a kind of cute name.
