Why.
Apple dropped support for it so any security flaws will be there for good and leave you PC exposed.
Why.
I see you didnt read the 8 sentence article.
Without the sensationalism, the BBC:
The Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) website said two vulnerabilities found in the Windows version of QuickTime had been reported to Apple.
But ZDI said it was "advised that the product would be deprecated on Windows" and that Apple would publish software removal instructions.
And,
https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/alerts/TA16-105A
There are two zero-day exploits detected
Basically there are zero-days that target QT for Windows and Apple is done giving any fucks about supporting it.

Took forever to load, which is why I asked in the thread. :v:
so what do i do now when i need a codec to edit .mov files, because my mac still produces .mov files, working between machines is going to be pretty fuckin stupid now that apple stopped supporting it

Any decent media players and editing software will still support mov presumably?
Any decent media players and editing software will still support mov presumably?
Vegas is nice.
Any decent media players and editing software will still support mov presumably?
premiere doesn't, it will tell you that you need a codec (quicktime) to edit .mov files
I agree, no one should be forced to endure using Quicktime on Windows.
I use Adobe Premiere and After Effects which uses Quicktime as a pre-requisite, what should I do?
I use a lot of Abobe software so Quicktime is kind of necessary.
I use Adobe Premiere and After Effects which uses Quicktime as a pre-requisite, what should I do?
Transcode everything
Apple dropped support for it so any security flaws will be there for good and leave you PC exposed.
I'd have thought the govt would want that?
I use Adobe Premiere and After Effects which uses Quicktime as a pre-requisite, what should I do?
Use Vegas.
These two vulnerabilities must be really fucking serious if the government is getting involved. I've never seen them issue a warning like this for any vulnerable software before.
I agree, no one should be forced to endure using Quicktime on Windows.
Hell I don't want to use quicktime on this Mac.
premiere doesn't, it will tell you that you need a codec (quicktime) to edit .mov files
Are there no other codec packs you can use?
I'd have thought the govt would want that?
The government wouldn't want something so widely used by their citizens be very vulnerable to exploits. Foreigners hacking into civilians can be as risky as them hacking into federal systems.
Well looks like Apple's plan of forcing media creators onto their shitty Macs is working. They forced their shitty Quicktime onto us until it became a standard and then they drop support entirely. Well done Apple you fucking assholes.
Can a moderator change the title? It's not even close to the truth
Why are people using .mov anyway?
Like, why isn't MP4 or Theora the de-facto

Because Apple has pushed hard to make it a standard in the media industry and now they pull this shit to fuck over PC users.

Plot twist: QuickTime protects us from the government
Can a moderator change the title? It's not even close to the truth
Done did.
So for those of us who use Source film maker, what are we suppose to use if not the codecs from quick time?
Use Vegas.

Sony Vegas is a shitty and limited software though.
Only the cool kids remember when Quicktime was a good thing. Are the known vulnerabilities even a problem outside of the Browser plugins? It just sounds like a /g/ sensationalized push to abandon it just because.
Just keep using it until something better comes along. I doubt even the above average person will have issues.

bring back realplayer 2k16
Use Vegas.

I would rather give up video editing forever than use Sony Vegas
