The British prime minister's internet filters will be about more than just hardcore pornography, according to information obtained by the Open Rights Group. The organisation, which campaigns for digital freedoms, has spoken to some of the Internet Service Providers that will be constructing Cameron's content filters. They discovered that a host of other categories of supposedly-objectionable material may be on the block-list. As well as pornography, users may automatically be opted in to blocks on "violent material", "extremist related content", "anorexia and eating disorder websites" and "suicide related websites", "alcohol" and "smoking". But the list doesn't stop there. It even extends to blocking "web forums" and "esoteric material", whatever that is. "Web blocking circumvention tools" is also included, of course. Don't miss: Hardcore sex in 'Nymphomaniac' puts porn actor genitals on cast's bodies The ORG's Jim Killock says: "What's clear here is that David Cameron wants people to sleepwalk into censorship. We know that people stick with defaults: this is part of the idea behind 'nudge theory' and 'choice architecture' that is popular with Cameron." He adds: "The implication is that filtering is good, or at least harmless, for anyone, whether adult or child. Of course, this is not true; there's not just the question of false positives for web users, but the affect on a network economy of excluding a proportion of a legitimate website's audience."
Source In other news, the UK is shocked to discover that they can't access 99.999% of the Internet by default.
I don't think Cameron wants to walk us into censorship at all, and he does care about protecting vulnerable people from the darker side. It's just that these plans are drawn up without any thought by extremely computer illiterate people.

Thanks god they will protect kids from terrible places like Facepunch.
This is fucking dumb as hell. It annoys me because alot of people aren't the direct owners of there internet, so they'll have to explain to there parents or room mates or whatever why they should turn the block off and it's obvious the response back will be "Why so you can look at porn all day??" or something like that.
The variety in which this filter blocks shit is ridiculous, sounds as if they just threw it in after thinking they can ban types of porn.
And people criticize the US for civil liberties violations... Damn.
In other news, VPN sales are up 70%!
Don't miss: Hardcore sex in 'Nymphomaniac' puts porn actor genitals on cast's bodies
Okay I won't
In other news, VPN sales are up 70%!
except you can turn them off?
So who said this was only targeting pornography and wouldn't turn into a slippery slope again?
fucking knew it come get me fuckers I am going to kill the Prime Minister of the Un... actually better not
In other news, VPN sales are up 70%!
You can opt out easily? If you're too embarrassed to ring up your ISP and ask them to turn the block off then it's probably for the best that it's on. Especially now that it blocks way more than porn.
Although this is really ridiculous, the method of disabling it doesn't require jumping through tons of hoops. I'm sure all you would have to do is call them or email them.
like, why is no one making a bigger fuss about this? this is a MASSIVE fucking issue
The unholy alliance between social conservatives and fearful ban things liberals is going to kill all fun and freedom.
I hope you guys fucking do something over there instead of just complain about the weather.
You can opt out easily?
Yes, call them and opt out, and get put on their list of 'potential perverts and criminals'.

Especially now that it blocks way more than porn.
I'd phone my ISP and ask them to unblock my fave futanari sites, I literally don't care. My main issue is that this defaults to being on which- wait, I object to this period. What a fucking nannying, useless, freedom sapping waste of money. The whole principle is flawed
can't wait to get on the internet one day and find out everything is blocked because the program is run by cretins
Yes, call them and opt out, and get put on their list of 'potential perverts and criminals'.
and than they ask you about which forums and what kinds of porn you would like unblocked.
One of the problems with this is what if a young teen wants to research sexual health or alcohol/drug problems? The internet is pretty much the only way they can do it privately without having to tell someone

why does he want to block porn when he's the biggest wanker in the uk
this is more relevant than ever
It's not "on by default", stop calling it this. Spreading false information will not help the situation.

Has it corrupted you as a person?
