You already could download steam games while playing. When the game starts, pause the download then unpause it and it downloads.

It auto-pauses, so you just need to un-pause.

Last time I tried, you couldn't do it. it would tell me to exit my game first.

Is there a way to make enable this for games by default? Most my stuff is singelplayer, so I'd rather just tell a few games they shouldn't allow background downloads while I'm playing them than do it the other way around.

For me I needed to manually hit pause even though it already said pause.
