i have gmod, completed some achievements, and i try to login with my steam account that has gmod, and it tells me i do not have it.
"This account doesn't seem to own Gmod"

what does "private" mean? how do you fix it?

Go to your account in steam and set it to public.
Go to edit profile, and there should be an option in there

There is no proof he pirated garry's mod, its just his steam profile is set to private
If I recall, Garry changed the gmod.org site to use Steam's own API which means it shouldn't matter whether or not it's private or not. So what he's even managed to get to, I don't know.

I know people who have their Steam profiles set to private, and they have never had this problem

Your profile is set to private. Go into the steam community, make a profile or enable it.
This is so garrysmod.org can verify that you actually owe Garry's mod, and seeing as it's done through OpenXML (or what the cock it's called) it needs your profile to be public.
