• SEAL Team 3 comes under heavy small arms fire during insertion by CV-22 insertion in South Sudan
A CV-22 Osprey was in the process of landing to insert a Spec Ops team when the aircraft came under heavy small arms fire. The landing was immediately aborted, but not before enemy forces shot into the rear crew section of the plane, wounding at least four of the Special Ops troops prepping for insertion. At least four service members sustained injuries, and SOFREP has confirmed that one of the injured was a west coast-based SEAL from SEAL Team 3. Initial reports have said all of the injured were SEALs. SOFREP has confirmed as of 2230 ET that the four were all SEALs. We’ve also heard that one of the other injured members on the team took a direct hit to his femoral artery, and almost died during the flight. He is alive because of the quick response of the aircrew, and their decision to fly directly to Kenya where a surgical team was waiting to treat the wounded. All of the injured are apparently in stable condition, and awaiting transfer to Germany. Three CV-22s, the Air Force Special Operations variant of the tilt-rotor aircraft, were hit with small-arms fire while approaching a site to evacuate U.S. personnel in the South Sudanese capital of Bor. The aircraft aborted their mission and diverted to an airfield outside the country, the Pentagon said. The State Department said Sunday that four chartered flights and five military aircraft were able to evacuate about 380 U.S. officials and more than 300 citizens of other countries to Nairobi and other countries.
http://sofrep.com/30798/west-coast-based-seal-team-3-injured-in-south-sudan/#.Urjz5DOjAMI.facebook
It's crazy to think this sort of stuff like that in films actually happens all the time.
And they still have to evac our guys in the city. Hope this doesn't turn into another Dunkirk.
Sounds just like the plot of Tears of the Sun :v:
South Sudan is about to get a lot of/more drones if they didn't have some already.
Sounds just like the plot of Tears of the Sun :v:
i was thinking about the same thing, fucking lol.
It's crazy to think this sort of stuff like that in films actually happens all the time.
Most of the time in films they don't fail the mission before it even begins though. At least the enemy didn't wait until they were inserted before they opened fire.
I bet the bad guys are pretty proud of themselves right now. Shoulda gone for an engine though, knowing how fragile V-22's are.
How much armor do CV-22s have? Seems a bit strange that mere small arms fire could turn a military helicopter into swiss cheese, would imagine it'd be protected at the very least against that.

Besides you wouldn't want to be evacing civilians while getting shot at.

You want a transport that can carry as many men as possible to your destination. You also want the aircraft to be maneuverable and fairly easy to fly. And of course, there is always protection of the crew. Unfortunately, asking for all of these in one sitting is a bit too much.. You see, as a pilot, you come to understand that you are literally just dancing with physics. You're not commanding it or controlling it. Even though you've got an engine and controlls, you are still at the whim of the physical world. It is a constant fight between useful load and useful gear. They sacrifice armor plating for speed and carrying capabilities. All aircraft are like this, it's why Boeing spend a decade designing ultra-light seating that would save on weight but also continue to provide a comfortable experience for the flyer. Aviation is a bitch.
Oh shit, my cousin lives on the west coast and is a Navy Seal. Hope he's alright.
Okay I've been a bit out of the loop on Sudan, what exactly is going on?

If they had waited until the SEALs hit the ground, it would have been a bloodbath.
I've been training for this in CoD for years now. They need me.

It was funny
