• Reformat or Going Back to Factory Defaults?

'sup. Computer's been a bit iffy lately, posted a couple topics before. Just general instability and video driver issues, the usual stuff that might just make you reinstall your system. However I'd like to use the inbuilt Windows "let's go back to whatever date you like" feature, considering I don't think I have my Windows disc anymore. Is there a big difference in going back to factory defaults and a full reformat? All I know of difference is that one removes drivers + Windows and one does not.
There's a large difference. Windows Restore (I assume is what you're talking about) does essentially put Windows back in time and removes updates, programs and drivers that were installed on the dates after the one you select to go back to. But reformatting completely removes Windows, and allows you to install Windows freshly which is the only way to completely get rid of everything including viruses (some viruses will still stay even when Windows Restore is used). Sometimes a reformat can speed up the computer a lot too since when you reinstall Windows there's no crap left on the hard drive anywhere
I would go for a reformat, then you don't get all of the crap. You can LEGALLY download a windows disk image from Microsoft and install it with a USB stick provided you own a license for Windows.
