Every day above ground is a good one.
Six Feet Under is a show that aired on HBO from 2001 to 2005 about a family owned funeral home
The show stars Peter Krause as Nathaniel Samuel "Nate" Fisher Jr., the son of a funeral director who, upon the death of his father (Richard Jenkins), reluctantly becomes a partner in the family funeral business with his brother David (Michael C. Hall). The Fisher clan also includes widow Ruth (Frances Conroy) and daughter Claire (Lauren Ambrose). Other regulars include mortician and family friend Federico Diaz (Freddy Rodriguez), Nate's on-again, off-again girlfriend Brenda Chenowith (Rachel Griffiths), and David's long-term boyfriend Keith Charles (Mathew St. Patrick).

On one level, the show is a conventional family drama, dealing with such issues as relationships, infidelity, and religion. At the same time, it is a show distinguished by its unblinking focus on the topic of death, which it explores on multiple levels (personal, religious, and philosophical). Each episode begins with a death – anything from drowning or heart attack to Sudden infant death syndrome – and that death usually sets the tone for each episode, allowing the characters to reflect on their current fortunes and misfortunes in a way that is illuminated by the death and its aftermath. The show also has a strong dosage of dark humor and surrealism running throughout.

A recurring plot device consists of a character having an imaginary conversation with the deceased; for example, Nate, David, and Federico sometimes "converse" with the person who died at the beginning of the episode, while they are being embalmed or planning or during the funeral. Sometimes, the conversation is with other recurring deceased characters, most notably Nathaniel Fisher Sr. The show's creator Alan Ball states they represent the living character's internal dialogue by exposing it as an external conversation.

Nate Fisher (Peter Krause)

Nate was the one that his father though he had done right with. He left home at an early age to avoid becoming part of the family business, but gets involved once his father dies.
David Fisher (Michael C. Hall)

David is the middle child, and considers himself "the stable one." He joined the family business at age 20, and still lives in the same house that he grew up in. Though he has many troubles getting there (he's a homosexual), he wants a stable relation ship with Keith Charles.
Ruth Fisher (Francis Conroy)

Ruth is the mother of Nate, David, and Claire. She becomes guilt ridden when her husband dies because she was having an affair for the last two years of her marriage.
Claire Fisher (Lauren Ambrose)

The youngest of the children and probably struggled more than David and Nate. She grew up with the death and grieving and was considered a freak in highschool.
Federico Diaz (Freddy rodriguez)

He's one of the best restorative artists around, and got his start at Fisher & Sons after his father died. He was impressed to see his father, who was horribly disfigured, put back together flawlessly. After striking up a relationship with Mr. Fisher and doing odd jobs, he got a full right through mortuary school.
Keith Charles (Mathew St. Patrick)

Davids boyfriend, who goes through a lot of pain and suffering with the Fisher family.
Brenda Chenowith (Rachel Griffiths)

Very on-and-off with Nate, she is a woman who had a rough childhood. As a child she endured many tests due to her IQ, and even had a book written about her.
Nathaniel Fisher (Richard Jenkins)

The father of the Fisher children, and really the person that brings them together when he dies. He was a very odd man though, dealing funerals in other for other goods/services. Appears frequently in the series in hallucinations, often talking to his children.
Billy Chenowith(Jeremy Sisto)

Brenda's brother, who was also traumatized by his childhood but is also mentally unstable throughout the series. This causes many problems, and he changes dramatically throughout the show (for better and worse).
Russel (Ben Foster)

[sp]He meets claire when she goes to college, and gets really involved with her. He gets her pregnant, which she later aborts. He also causes a lot of drama with her works of art, trying to claim he was the one that gave her the ideas[/sp]
(These are the major characters in the series, and remain important through every season)

The show is fucking incredible. The story is fantastic and the acting is amazing. It has 5 seasons (i'm nearing the end of the 5th myself) and it's definitely one of the best shows i've ever watched. It can really strike a nerve, and has some emotionally intense scenes.
Six Feet Under received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for its writing and acting, and consistently drew high ratings for the HBO network. Six Feet Under has frequently been described by critics as one of the greatest television series of all time as well has having one of the greatest series finales of all time.
I can't wait to finish it, what do you guys think of it?
oh, feel free to correct me or have me add something too.
I absolutely love it. Each character is so unique. You'll love the rest, I swear. So worth it. Let me know when you get to the last episode--it's beyond amazing. I got so emotional. :p
i almost cried during [sp]nates funeral, and watching david grieve. [/sp]
i almost cried during [sp]nates funeral, and watching david grieve. [/sp]
I shed a tear at the very last scene
Also, I think that Billy was a big enough character to get a section up there. He was played by Jeremy Sisto, and was Brendas brother.
yeah, i knew i forgot someone. i'll put it up in a minute, thanks
Russell was also a pretty big character even though he was only in 22 episodes.
From IMDB:
Russell was Claire's art-school boyfriend. She[sp] got pregnant by him and had an abortion; later, he claimed her technique of tearing up photos and making collage-portraits of them was his idea.[/sp]
He was played by Ben Foster
Not sure if it's a spoiler or not because I didn't even remember the first part.
added, and god damn episode 11. shit's building up.
i almost cried during [sp]nates funeral, and watching david grieve. [/sp]
i DID cry at that. and [sp]i fucking bawled at the final montage [/sp]
best show ever on television
added, and god damn episode 11. shit's building up.
You're gonna cry like a baby at the end. This is one of the few shows that got a proper ending, not just "IT'S DONE LOL!"
You're gonna cry like a baby at the end. This is one of the few shows that got a proper ending, not just "IT'S DONE LOL!"
seriously. i cried sooooo much
i've never had that kind of emotional reaction to any movie or any other tv show
Do you guys think [sp]Brenda might have fucked Billy at one point? The few times it has been brought up, she's been really defensive. When she and Nate were fighting after he found out she'd been cheating on him, she brought it up and Nate wasn't even talking about Billy, I don't think. It's obviously a touchy subject for her.[/sp]
Just thought it was kind of suspicious.

i think it was heavily hinted at, i always thought that they had a strange relationship

Personally I think that he may have [sp]raped[/sp] her at one point
oh my god the ending scene was so beautiful, i don't know how to even describe it.
Did you cry like a baby?
oh my god the ending scene was so beautiful, i don't know how to even describe it.
safe to say it's my favorite montage of all time
[editline]01:14AM[/editline]
and did you cry? be honest
yes, and i can honestly say it's the first thing to make me cry in months. cried like a baby.
I'm about to get into this just because I saw Michael C. Hall on the cast.
I couldn't get into it because I'm extremely homophobic and watching the guy I saw as Dexter for a very long time make out with a dude was horrifying.
I couldn't get into it because I'm extremely homophobic and watching the guy I saw as Dexter for a very long time make out with a dude was horrifying.
You can watch him brutally murder people, but you can't stand to see the same guy kiss another man he's portrayed as being in love with?
That's fucked up.
I just finished watching all the seasons a few weeks ago. I think it's safe to say that it's one of my favorite three shows. There wasn't one point in the show where I thought "this is boring" or anything, I was entertained through all the seasons, and the season/series finale just blew me away. Best season finale/show ending I have ever seen. Anyone that didn't bother finishing it, should. (In spoiler tags just incase, no actual spoilers:)[sp]I didn't know if I should cry, be amazed, or what. I think I did a little bit of both though. It was breathtaking, I don't think they could have ended such an amazing show any better.[/sp]
Michael C Hall is an amazing actor and he did a great job in his role, so did everyone else. My favorite characters were Nate and David.

Sucks to be you. Looks like being a dick isn't the only downside to being a homophobe.

nate was definitely my favorite character because of how multi-layered he was. he was incredibly interesting and [sp] seeing him die was just so fucking tragic, even if you knew it was probably going to happen. [/sp]
and btw the series finale is probably the best episode of any television show i've ever seen, and it was more emotional than pretty much any movie i've seen too
[editline]06:08AM[/editline]
it's honestly probably the only show or movie that has actually worked to alter the way I live my life
it was definitely one of the best things i've invested my time into, and like i said the ending was so beautiful, sad, and just... perfect really. fucking amazing.
[editline]02:30AM[/editline]
actually i think i'm going to go watch the ending again really fast.
I haven't watched any of it, but I will if I get the time.
Michael C Hall is the shit
he's amazing, but it takes time to get used the role he plays if you're really into what he was in dexter.

How exactly is that fucked up?
How exactly is that fucked up?
If you really can't see why then you have something wrong with you.
If you really can't see why then you have something wrong with you.
He's homophobic, I see no problem. He isn't bashing the guy for playing a gay, all he said is that he can't watch him play a gay guy because of it.
He plays a completely straight guy who was with a beautiful woman, had some kids ,and did his own form of vigilantism in Dexter.
I don't have any issues with him killing the people he killed on the show because they were all scumbags anyways.
Watching him make out with another man was just very uncomfortable for me because I have a low tolerance for homosexuality in the things that I watch for entertainment.
I have nothing against gays so long as they don't impose their love lives on me.
