There have been 29 confirmed deaths from the hemorrhagic fever among 59 people killed by a mysterious illness in southeastern Guinea since early February, international medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) said. U.N. health officials have expressed concern that the disease, which has a fatality rate of 90 percent and has not been recorded in the West African state before, may spread to Sierra Leone after cases showing similar symptoms, including diarrhea, vomiting and bleeding, were reported there. At least five of the dead in Guinea have been medical officials, including the head of the regional hospital in Macenta, at the heart of the crisis, some 800 km (500 miles) from Guinea's capital Conakry. "We must increase the levels of protection for all those looking after the patients by providing kits for hospital personnel," said government spokesman Damantang Albert Camara.
ahghsdfjghf
At least its so deadly that outbreaks are minimal due to everyone carrying it dying in a few days
Only one solution to stop it's spread. Those who die in order to keep it from spreading, godspeed.

Internal haemorrhaging is one of those things that just fucking weirds me out. Ebola is terrifying. No approved therapy for it, so you're basically down to trying to alleviate the symptoms.

Looked up from playing Plague Inc and saw this and immediately shit myself.
I quickly read the title as Guinea Pigs Dispatches Equipment to Contain Outbreak of Ebola and just imagined for a minute them doing the task. It was quite the sight.
Only 59 deaths so far.. From guinea's weak medical infrastructure it's going to become a hell of a lot more.
Ebola Zaire is the only ebola strain that actually has a 90% mortality rate and it's only peaked at that in a few outbreaks since its' discovery afaik. Ebola strains range from something like 30% mortality and up, iirc In either case, those are some pretty high fucking rates and even thinking about how much suffering this disease causes makes me a little uncomfortable. You can actually throw up so much and so hard your esophageal lining can rip and come out. The same basically happens with your intestines. Ebola also feeds on connective tissue so you're basically just a bag of bones with skin draped over it, like you're wearing a fucked up suit of yourself. Horrifying shit On a lighter note, SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING!
I'm not really too bothered or scared by much but Ebola is the one disease i find fucking terrifying. I hope this ends soon.
