Turkey considering banning Minecraft over violence concerns
When it comes to the issue of violence corruption the national youth, one would really think that the Turkish government might have bigger fish to fry than a sandbox game in which battling fictional and non-human monsters is almost an aside from the actual gameplay mechanics. The point of the game is to build, to be creative, to express. For a Turkish government with the barbarians quite literally at its doorstep to call for censorship of one of the more benign gaming titles in recent memory would be comical if it were parody. But it isn't.
Nor are some of the hilariously contradictory claims to Ministry made in its report.
Although the game can be seen as encouraging creativity in children by letting them build houses, farmlands and bridges, mobs [hostile creatures] must be killed in order to protect these structures. In short, the game is based on violence," the report stated (via Hürriyet Daily News). The ministry feels as though children may confuse the in-game world with the real world, and even begin torturing animals, oblivious to the pain they're inflicting. The report added that not only would Minecraft cause "social isolation," but that the online component might lead to internet bullying.
minecraft is teaching terrorizing ways with creepers and tnt
I see what their concern is, honestly.
ban lego
minecraft is a serial killer simulator
allah blockbar
Of all the games to ban due to violence
this is so stupid it hurts
you are able to kill evil things in a game, this obviously means that children will go on animal torture sprees because they think they are living in minecraft
the internet is a cyberbullying simulator
ban now
Is there, like, a Turkish Minecraft server all about democracy or something? I don't know why they've been scrambling to try and get it banned, first the sexism thing, now violence...
This is so dumb.
If you have anything basic understanding of how the human child works, you should know that letting them play a blocky, constructive survival game will not influence them in anyway. If anything, it should inspire them more due to the building aspect of the game.
Like, seriously. Children aren't that stupid.
Christ.
How about properly educating your kids?
You know... do your job as a parent if you're even fit to be one in the first place.

Literally just step in to give some context on some questionable topics once in a while.
That means you'll have to step in and do some actual parenting! Aint got time for that shit. We made TVs for that
Do countries banning things like games ever look at other countries that haven't and check if their predicted horror scenarios are actually unfolding in those places?
of everything that kids are playing that could cause violent behaviour, they pick minecraft?
hell i'm pretty sure stopping a kid from playing mc will downright result in violent behaviour
Besides the zombie pigmen, there's not even any real gore or blood. You just thwack a giant spider in the face with a stone sword several times and it keels over like a tipped wheel before poofing. I mean, is semi-sensical but still relatively family-friendly violence really that much worse than Mario jumping on the heads of creatures that also poof when they die? Unless you kill the villagers, it's not even people-murdering. Killing animals is pretty much the only 'cruel behavior' of note, and I don't think Minecraft is going to inspire anyone but batshit insane or poorly raised people to go start murdering sheep for their wool so they can make beds and dyed floors.
I bet Erdoğan ordered the ban because someone griefed his house on a Turkish Pub server.
Damn kids going around building dirt huts and killing sheep :v:

My condolences for the head trauma you must have suffered for such a thing to make sense.
Yeah, because the Armenian Genocide wasn't violent at all.
<Roll in the butthurt Turks>
Wish the government would stop trying to do the jobs of fucking parents, and leave it up to the parents there's no wonder we're getting an increase in shitty parents when they don't even have to lift a finger anymore.
If they had really cared about video games causing violence, they would have banned Mario Party instead. :v:
