(CNN) -- Jack Bruce, singer, songwriter and bassist for legendary 1960s rock band Cream, died Saturday at 71.
Bruce's family confirmed the death of the Scottish musician on his official website and Facebook page.
"The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts."
Considered one of the greatest rock trios of all time, Cream was formed by Bruce, guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker in 1966. The band produced such hits as "Sunshine of Your Love," "White Room," "Crossroads" and "Strange Brew," many of which Bruce wrote and sang. He also helped come up with the memorable guitar riff in "Sunshine of Your Love."
One of the greatest bassists of all time and a huge influence on me as a bassist. Also an extremely underrrated song writer.

A bit weird, since I just saw the "Beware of mister baker" docu. Great player though, r.i.p.
Really underrated indeed.
Most people who have ever listened to rock or pop music in general have heard some of his basslines one time or other, without knowing who he was.
I had a conversation about Cream and particularly Jack Bruce after I saw Robin Trower with some his bandmates, creepy he's gone today. There goes my reunion dreams ;-( RIP.
God, Cream are one of my favorite classic rock bands. Short but sweet, true lightning in a bottle. I highly recommend everyone listen to the live tracks off of their album "Wheels Of Fire" to get a true feel for Cream and what three guys alone could do. True musicianship right there. RIP.
