Luton Airport has been evacuated after a security alert, disrupting flights for thousands of passengers.
Pictures on Twitter show hundreds of travellers crowded outside the terminal, and a bomb disposal van at the scene.
All incoming flights have been suspended and the approach road to the Bedfordshire airport has been closed.
Sky News sources say the alert is thought to have been sparked by a checked-in suitcase that was picked up by a security scanner.
A spokeswoman for the airport said: "London Luton Airport has evacuated the terminal building after a suspicious item was found in the security search area.

A controlled explosion took place:

Bomb disposal squad officers have carried out a controlled explosion at Luton airport.
Bedfordshire police have confirmed that the package was "not a home-made bomb."

Watch it be a balloon or something.
Apparently a controlled explosion took place. I'll try to post a source when a reliable one is out.

Normally terrorists or criminals don't try to smuggle stuff onto planes from towns that don't have an airport.

There was also a controlled explosion in Wimbledon today:

A section of road was closed after a suspect package was reported to police.
The package, near West Hill, was reported to police at 1.44pm. Police cordoned off Sutherland Grove, in between Southfields and East Putney.
The incident caused delays to the District Line and traffic had to be diverted.
Residents reported hearing an explosion in the area which is understood to have been a controlled detonation of the package.
The sound was heard by people in Wimbledon, Putney and Southfields.

Not sure how common controlled explosions are but this is a bit fishy...
Also BBC is reporting the controlled explosion happened inside of the terminal.

Yeah I'm not sure why they'd dispose of it like that unless it was a threat.
2 on the same day would probably be odd.
It really seems like anything can be suspicious now

I'm sure this comes up nearly every time someone posts this image, but that's because there are numerous times a flashlight has been used to house a bomb. You see a flashlight in an area like that, when there's been bombings from flashlights in the area before? Yeah. It's a suspicious flashlight.
It's funny - weren't they telling on the news that IS might be aiming at the UK next, and all of the sudden there's a spike in reports.
I'm sure theres a name for it. It's like with the malaysia airlines flight. They start reporting on more and more stories involving planes crashes, trying to make you think they're related.
The Daily Mail is like #1 at this.
