S&P cut Russia’s rating one step to BBB-, it said in a statement today. The grade, on par with Brazil and Azerbaijan, has a negative outlook. S&P last downgraded Russia in December 2008. Russia’s currency and bonds fell. “The tense geopolitical situation between Russia and Ukraine could see additional significant outflows of both foreign and domestic capital from the Russian economy and hence further undermine already weakening growth prospects,” S&P said in the statement. The U.S. and its allies have a list of additional sanctions ready and will enact them if there is no progress de-escalating the crisis in Ukraine, where security forces are moving against pro-Russia separatists in the country’s east, U.S. President Barack Obama said yesterday in Tokyo. Last month, Russia was placed on review for a downgrade by Moody’s Investors Service and Fitch Ratings cut its outlook to negative. Russia’s dollar bonds due April 2020 fell for a fifth day, lifting the yield 13 basis points to 4.90 percent, the highest since March 17. The ruble weakened 0.6 percent against the dollar to trade at 35.9800 at 11:28 a.m. in Moscow. It has declined 8.6 percent this year, the second-worst performance among 24 emerging-market currencies tracked by Bloomberg.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-04-25/russia-s-rating-cut-to-bbb-by-standard-poor-s.html Let's hope the Russians see sense, before their economy starts to go into severe retraction.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's credit rating is already C- according to S&P
See sense? No. They'll disregard it as a US conspiracy.
Won't change anything, just more propaganda for Putin about how it's all a Western conspiracy.
Today I also just learned that Russia has a smaller economy than Italy. hehehehehe

It's like Democracy 3 in real life except Russia isn't in Democracy 3 since it's barely a democracy.
I feel really bad for my friends in Russia who are going to get fucked by their shit government.

[editline]25th April 2014[/editline] Really, California could very well be a separate country. Where does all that money come from, is there that much industry there?

Just the ones off the top of my head. Also it practically is a separate country, they do pretty much their own thing. Their laws and regulations are somewhat different compared to the rest of the country. IIRC there's a border check for fruits and vegetables, since they don't want diseases being transported in to infest their crops. Nigeria and India actually make a buttload more movies than Hollywood does.
California also makes 90% of America's wine, and the USA is the 4th largest producer of Wine in the world.
I didn't realize you could double/triple letters ON TOP of adding a + or a -, for anything other than "above A+" it sounds like vague empty threats with facts made up by third graders
