SPOKANE, WA (KREM) -- A recent investigation into racially charged threats made toward the president of the NAACP chapter in Spokane have raised questions beyond who made the threats.
On Thursday, Rachel Dolezal's parents claimed she had been deceiving people.
Ruthanne and Larry Dolezal said Thursday that they want people to know the truth including that their daughter is Caucasian. The Dolezals sat down with 11Alive's Spokane sister station, KREM 2 News and said their daughter is specifically German and Czech.
Rachel Dolezal was born in Troy, Montana. Ruthanne and Larry Dolezal said their daughter has always identified with the African American culture and had black siblings who were adopted. They said she went to school in Mississippi and was part of a primarily African American community.
The Dolezals said Rachel married and later divorced a black man. They said after the divorce in 2004 Rachel began identifying differently. She started claiming to be partially African American and the daughter of bi-racial parents. They said they have noticed her change in physical appearance but do not know how she did so.
"Rachel has wanted to be somebody she's not. She's chosen not to just be herself but to represent herself as an African American woman or a biracial person. And that's simply not true," said Ruthanne Dolezal.
The Dolezals said they do not have a problem with Rachel advocating for a civil rights group for African Americans, rather that she is being deceptive about it.
Rachel's parents said she distanced herself from them and has not talked to them recently.

I personally find this fucking hilarious but can understand why people are angry: it's pretty freaking weird for a person to do this.

Picture that is shown to her in the video. This is who she claims is her father.
She sounds like she has an actual mental issue to be honest
hahahaha holy shit are you for real?
that neatly sums up the white racial advocate type really well doesnt it
Imagine if she just went full out black face tho hahaha like,

I don't see any piercings on her

I think there's more to this story, and here you are quick-draw name-calling and brushing over everything actually interesting in this story.
"what a sjw"
I think this person might have some mental issues, and it's almost offensive that you're denouncing it's entirety just to make a reference.
Yeah this has absolutely nothing to do with the internet culture wars so please don't.

I think it's a bit to early to start making assumptions that someone has mental issues without any kind of clinical proof. I made a thinly veiled joke -- You're assuming she's mentally instable.
I'm wondering what would make a person to want to change races. I understand that there's expected, acceptable, and unacceptable behavior that society associates with each race, but I personally don't feel like I have to make the jump from being white to another race to enjoy myself.
I'm half-White and half-Mexican and have a ton of black people, Mexicans, Asians, and white people in my family. I live in a household that's full of black people. I get along with all of them just fine, and race isn't really something I've ever thought about.
My first High School was predominantly black, followed by Mexicans. There were like two or three white people at the school and I was one of them. I got along just fine with all of them and my best friend at the time was black.
The thing that I would emphasize is culture - it's not about the actual color of your skin so much as how you fit in society with your actions. When it came down to it, we all weren't that different even though I was definitely the nerdiest of the school.
So, with this love and appreciation for black people, I'm trying to put myself in her shoes. I'm really thinking about why my skin color would have to be changed - how does it add a level of inclusion? Would the "inclusion" matter? What if it's an escape from something: maybe my personality? Or is it a way to feel like the person I feel I "truly" am? Is there an appeal of being a minority, and therefore having exclusive advantages and disadvantages?
I have no clue what this person's angle would be.

it says in the article that she had always hung out within black communities but apparently it was after her divorce from her black husband that she started to act out like this.
i'm gonna lay down some Grade A armchair psychology.
i reckon she didn't enjoy her white family, due to who knows, and liked hanging out more with her black friends at school. they felt more like family to her. so she always had this level of inclusion with them and sense of belonging. with her black husband this sense had nearly been complete cos she was going to start a mixed race family and have coloured offspring.
BUT THEN
divorce happens! she's heartbroken! doesn't know what's going on, the guy who made her feel included and part of a family has ditched her and she's left without an identity. so she begins the metamorphosis à la franz kafka .
With the constructed narrative of being a black person herself, she is no longer relying on the reflections of others and can begin her life a new as a real life adaptation of Robert Downey Jr's character from Tropic Thunder.
how's that.
Special snowflake syndrome in action
Okay so she wanted to fit in with her adopted afro American siblings, the mostly afro-american community they belonged to and to fit in with her "adoptive" (in the sense he married in) father, who was also afro American.
She is denying her racial lineage (which should be absolutely fucking irrelevant anyway) to FIT IN, to BE LIKE OTHERS around her.
"special snowflake"
You couldn't try any harder to force a stereotype onto somebody. Give me a break.
Again, America is so obsessed with race it's laughable.
It's okay she's transnigger
(User was banned for this post (""Nigger"" - Big Dumb American))
So why do we even still need the NAACP? Segregation is long gone, they've achieved their goal, black people are normal, functioning members of society.
"Are you an African American?"
"I don't understand the question."
This woman should be in politics
Does it really matter if she is black or not? You don't need to be a member of a non-white group to know what discrimination is, what it feels like, and to take a stand against it.
Seems like someone is really butthurt with her and doing anything to attack her character.

Did you actually read the source
She's been masquerading as a black person for a while and even her parents had to point out she was making shit up. People aren't attacking her character out of spite, they're pointing out the obvious lies she's been saying.
its literally the opposite of the human stain
amazing

Benjamin Jealous was an earlier NAACP president.
Why do they pick presidents that look white as fuck?

At a certain point, I just have to accept that no matter how obvious, credible, and monumental the proof that racism is alive and thriving on a massive scale in this country really is, that certain people will willfully refuse to acknowledge that fact.

Perhaps it is that ignorance of such that continues these trends in the first place...

Maybe where you live, but here in the South a lot of black neighborhoods are like desolate, crime-ridden wastelands. If black neighborhoods didn't look like the heart of darkness, I suspect a lot of the racial prejudice in the South would start to fade.

The NAACP was run by Jewish people almost entirely except for Du Bois until like the mid 70s. That's pretty much why. There's a history to it being ran by White people.

Man where I grew up it was fucking funny at how strong the contrast was. Like there's an immediate shift to "Oh fuck", and this wasn't even supposed to be a bad area. The ghetto cropped up immediately outside the University grounds on one side.
