"More than 155,000 servicemen, some 8,000 units of military hardware, including over 4,000 armored vehicles, 632 aircraft, and 84 ships are taking part in the exercises," Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin in a video conference call from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, on the Kamchatka Peninsula. “Generally, the drills are being conducted according to the plan,” the minister said. “Preliminary conclusions can be drawn already. Procurement of advanced weapons and military equipment has increased the firepower, mobility and assault capabilities of military units and formations. Introduction of new means of communication and automation has led to the stable and effective management of different groups of forces,” Shoigu told the Russian leader. The Vostok-2014 strategic military exercise in the Eastern Military District is taking place from September 19 to 25 and was preceded by snap combat readiness checks.
http://en.ria.ru/military_news/20140923/193203469/Defense-Minister-Over-155000-Servicemen-Take-Part-in-Russias.html
Clearly putin is about to invade north korea to unite it with south korea to get himself in the good graces of the west
So? Seriously fail to see how this should make us care. Or is it an attempt to tie this with the Ukrainian conflict?
they were also reportedly 30 minutes away from kiev
Or is it an attempt to tie this with the Ukrainian conflict?
Sure is. Most of far eastern Russia is pretty open, expansive and away from civilization so its perfect for unrestricted drills and training.

It's just Sabre-Rattling, nothing more.
So they tried to invade Ukraine again but got drunk and went the wrong way?
This just in: Militaries hold drills to practice combat. This really isn't news.

We must fortify Alaska. Haven't any of you fools played RISK?
I think it's normal that Russia is conducting these activities with a huge amount of soldiers and equipment, I mean with war at your door and foreign relations deteriorating, it's obvious they'll prepare for something. So this is basically, "Russia performs military drill" just in a large scale.
We must fortify Alaska. Haven't any of you fools played RISK?
Not like they would take away our continent bonus, we haven't Mexico.
so basically russias flexing.. i mean i guess it is toughguy tuesday
A lot of people in the Vladivostok-Primorsky area aren't that fond of Moscow (mainly due to economic reasons), and not long ago there was a group of rogue criminals from there who stabbed some policemen (don't remember exactly when and what). The area doesn't usually break out unlike Chechnya and Dagestan, but it's probably on Mr. Putin's tight watch.

I can't wait to hear one day, Russia invades itself.
I can't wait to hear one day, Russia invades itself.
Well that's technically what this is... They're deploying on Russian soil and engaging in tactical maneuvers so really 155,000 Russians have invaded the remote Russian wilderness. WHY DOES THE UN ALLOW THIS AGGRESSION TO GO UNCHECKED?
