• New Routine - Need Opinions

About three weeks ago I started to workout a lot more than I used to. I made the decision after losing my job to get myself into shape and try to get my life back on track. I have a job interview on the 12th and have an opportunity at another job on standby. I've tried a lot over the last few weeks and think I may have a decent routine going. Advice, opinions and criticism are all appreciated. My main focus is losing my gut and building my upper body. Height - 5' 11" Weight - 180 lb. (Arms aren't that big. The weight is definitely attributed to my gut, which isn't huge, but noticeable.) Schedule: Sun - Rest Mon - Upper Body, Cardio Tue - Cardio Wed - Upper Body, Cardio Thur - Cardio Fri - Upper Body - Cardio Sat - Cardio Upper Body: Dumbell Weight - 10 lb. Increasing to 15 very soon. This is the routine I use for my upper body workout. I've increased the reps to 15, 15, 15, 15, 30 and 30 respectively and sometimes do 5 rounds instead of 4. Is this too little/too much? Like I said, I've very recently gotten into fitness and can admit that I don't know much, but am learning.
This is bad. You should look at stronglift 5x5 or SS
This is bad. You should look at stronglift 5x5 or SS
Why is it bad though?
Why is it bad though?
When you begin, compound movements will net you the most results and will get your joints used and all that crap much more than individual exercises focused at a single muscle at once. Also, never working out the lower body is a big no no. [editline]6th July 2013[/editline] I highly suggest Stronglift 5x5.
this is bad and you should feel bad for considering this routine.
idk always been a split guy but that routine was bad it's literally CURLBRO ROUTINE
idk always been a split guy but that routine was bad it's literally CURLBRO ROUTINE
Well yeah, you can definitely go straight for a split, I know a few people in this sub-forum never picked up a beginner program and went straight to the split routine, me included and I've been on that shit for like two years. But this routine is just straight CURLBRO as you mention it, it's crazy.
I only have access to dumbbells right now and can't afford a gym membership at the moment. Any suggestions?
Throw in some squats, lunges, and pistol squats.
I only have access to dumbbells right now and can't afford a gym membership at the moment. Any suggestions?
Someone once told me that aslong as you are careful and reduce the weight enough till you can balance, 1 dumbbell in each hand should be fine for a beginner to at least start. You obviously won't be able to maintain this at heavy weights as you cant really rack them like a bar, but yer, it's just what I've been told. Not sure of the accuracy of this.

Well yer, I've see buff dudes do 40kg in each hand but I can imagine starting out, you'd wanna take something like that slow.
thats a given, even if you're starting from the ground up, anything more than 12-15 kgs in each hand is a bit troubling if youre a totes beginner
