More than 4,200 migrants and refugees have been rescued in the past 24 hours in the Mediterranean during 22 separate operations carried out by naval vessels and merchant ships.
The operations were coordinated by the Italian Coast Guard from its national rescue centre in Rome and involved 4,243 people being rescued from nine boats and 13 large rubber dinghies.
All the rescues were carried out in the southern Mediterranean, off the coast of Libya, as the refugees tried to reach Italian shores.
More than 40,000 migrants and asylum seekers have reached Italy so far this year.
Great to see that the approach to human trafficking continues to be to enable it and assist the traffickers by getting their cargo to the destination.
Well, they can't just leave them to drown. They can send them back after rescuing them though.

Nah they can't. Italy got bitched at by the EUCHR after sending some back. It's why they're taking some militaristic action on Libyan soil rather than just tow the boats back.

Great to see that your not so subtle racism hasn't vaned since you got permad for it.
Degrading African immigrants to "boat people" in the title only to step it up in your witty commentary to call them "cargo" is something you wouldn't do if you regarded these people as somebody of equal worth to you.
Where are these anthropomorphic boats coming from, and can they be used for the good of mankind?

Calling Illegal immigrants who are being human trafficked by boat, boat people is degrading and racist. Gotcha.

literally calling human beings cargo, what the hell

You're misconstruing context. When it comes to Human Traffickers, they treat them as such. Here's a photo to demonstrate.

It is irrelevant what the traffickers treat them like, you choose to dehumanise them in the way you talk about them, it's entirely up to you.
Try to talk of the Jewish prisoners that were being hauled to concentration camps in livestock wagons as "cargo" in any community that's not /pol/ and tell me how it goes.

i'm sorry, how could i possibly think that an user who was banned multiple times for racism calling immigrant minorities "cargo" and "boat people" could possibly have meant in a derogatory way? especially when you actually took your time to change the original title from "boat migrants" to "boat people"? darn context!

Its been 2 years he's a changed man. Give him a chance. He's right in a sense you know. These human traffickers profit from moving these people and do not see them the same way as you and I do. Try to put yourself into their shoes.

"Assist the traffickers by getting their cargo to the destination." doesn't equate to "These people are cargo". And sorry buddy, I differentiate between legal and illegal immigration. Italians shoring up at Ellis are Boat Migrants.

Boat people has been used to refer to refugees from after the Vietnam war for quite some time. Its hardly seen as offensive. When you have people literally getting on crappy little boats to flee their country it makes sense for that term to be used.
"Assist the traffickers by getting their cargo to the destination." =/= "These's people are cargo". And sorry buddy, I differentiate between legal and illegal immigration. Italians shoring up at Ellis are Boat Migrants.
uhm yeah, legal or illegal they're still migrants
I really wish we would start enforcing anti illegal immigration laws
My country will sink due to overpopulation in no time if things keep going
Selling Australian trained boat watchers. Will stop any boats.
Rather than saving these people from the boats, why not support the Libyan and Tunisian governments with coast guard duties?
Last I heard the Libyan coast guard has one(1!) boat for their entire coast line. They could effectively stop the boats from sailing out in the first place.
put them to work making pizza a pasta

I've already told you this, it's got bad stigma. How'd you like it if you were walking in the street having people call you "oh look it's one of those disgusting boat people"
Illegal immigrants works, calling them cargo or anything else is vulgar honestly what the fuck
No person who has to flee war or poor living conditions should be considered illegal.
Wonder how much each individual migrant saved costs the government that saves them? Must cost a fair amount to have those naval ships scour the ocean, rescue them, feed and water them, cloth them, check them for diseases/virus, give medical treatment if necessary and then put them on their way wither it be integration/detention/deportation.
Can one put a price on human life?
Yeah sure OP, let's leave them to die out in the sea. Yep.
Despite all the issues and the general discomfort that these arrivals are causing (such as repurposing structures in an effort to make enough room), we can't just treat them as sub-humans all of a sudden

How are you getting so republican about the border protection of ANOTHER COUNTRY?
My god he must be the one foretold by the legends. The messiah. The one sent to unify the republican party and save america from the liberals. Reagan reincarnate. He is...

Ugh, goddamn people fleeing from desperate situations in their home country who have no real chance of success in the place where they're from. What the fuck is their problem, trying to come find a better life in a safer, more accepting part of the world?
If it was up to me, I'd drown all those stupid [del]niggers[/del] [del]darkies[/del] [del]foreigners[/del] [del]ragheads[/del] boat people!
I can't believe someone is actually able to use "boat people" as a derogatory term, racism is pathetic
Nice thing is what Italian authorities did, but I had to rate dumb OP for calling immigrants "boat people". Wtf dude, seriously?
could garry please stop having birthdays

This is getting completely out of hand. They need to be stopped at the source.

Because a country will solve it's issues when everyone is leaving.
