Okay guys, bear with me because this is a really emotional experience for me... For the past 7 years I've been terribly hateful towards Apple and their products. I've always thought they were just a bunch of dummy-proof, over-priced, gimmicky entrepreneurs. In a recent realization I may have gotten my subconscious to subside that awful stereotype. It all started with the router. I've always owned Linksys routers. Been proud of the wireless speed and coverage area, that is until my WRT54GL decided to break for good. Since then I've been on the hunt for a good router, burning through cash trying to find the perfect router for me. After a long and daunting journey of trial and error, I landed my eyes on the Airport Extreme 802.11n router at Best Buy. I don't normally buy things from Best Buy, but it seems destiny brought me there to browse with my friends and finally put an end to this search forever and for the best. I decided "fuck it, I've been buying shit routers, perhaps I'll try this one last router just for shits and giggles." Low and behold, I took this beasty little box home and hooked it up. Within minutes the entire right side of my house was blanketed in beautiful wireless bliss, reaching download speeds of 20Mb/s which is something not even my old Linksys could do. Unfortunately I have a rather large house, and my wireless range extender would bottleneck the speeds to the point of attempting suicide. That is until I read up on Apple.com that the Airport Extreme supports what's called WDS, which allows you to daisy chain wireless signals using two different devices over a physical connection, disabling the DHCP server on whichever box you're daisy chaining. At this point I decided to go for it. I got a 100ft CAT-6 cable and did a little crawling around in the crawlspace. To my first ever triumph, I got every part of my house filled with ungodly wireless N coverage. This single miracle of technology led me to believe Apple isn't so bad after all. They solved the trickiest computer problem (and quite honestly the only computer problem) I've ever been unable to fix manually. The fact that Apple builds all of their parts in America explains the mark-up as well as the overall satisfying performance of every product they make. After buying this router I decided to treat myself to an iPad, which is a wonderful little gadget to browse the internet with, especially when you consider I get phenomenal Wireless N coverage all over my house. To sum this up, I'm officially an Apple fanman. I'm sorry I ever doubted you.... Buying a Macbook Air on my next tax return. EDIT: Just wanted to point out the 20Mb/s was on a speed test. I get 60Mb/s on any ethernet connected computer.
My MacBook is the only wireless device from Smartphones and Netbooks/laptops to get a fast, full bar connection at the other side of my house. I'm pretty sure Apple builds most if not all its stuff overseas. Designed in California, Made in China for idevices but I could be wrong in regards to other products. Can you daisy chain 20Mb/s to my house? I get 1.92Mbps peak, 1.5Mbps average :<
I have to say I was a bit of an Apple hater. That was until I bought an iPod nano Easy to use stylish and nice to watch videos on and amazing battery life compared to most mp3 players. Going to get an iPhone in about two weeks. I can't afford an Apple iPad it's a nice luxury. Got a go on it in stores.
Can you daisy chain 20Mb/s to my house? I get 1.92Mbps peak, 1.5Mbps average :<
Well that would probably cost me a ton of money. I could run a few directional antennas to your house, but I'm guessing you don't live anywhere near Vancouver, Washington; and by the time the signal gets there, you'd have about 56k or less. This endeavor of mine has yet to convince me to switch phones, but it has convinced me that Apple does NOT make shit products like I initially thought!
After using the nano I can't imagine myself using anything else to listen to music on and I love iTunes. I haven't used an Android. I've used a Macbook before and they are nice for causal use but as a pc gamer I wouldn't see any use since the OS is still quite restricted on the gaming side of things. But if you ever need an mp3 for any reason iPod touch and nanos are great. But I wuoldn't see why you would need to.
Everyone here (not in this subforum obviously) bashes iPods and the like but they're all so beautifully smooth. Unless you're an audiophile, they're really the way to go. The software is feature-filled and the developers really pay attention to detail. Macs are astoundingly impressive pieces of hardware, albeit probably overpriced, they're really solid and I know a kid who's had a white body MacBook for several years, and it's still working great.

Don't knock it till you've tried it. Some of the products are over priced. I wouldn't buy any of the computers iMac or Macbook since I'm happy using a everyday pc. But they do cost a fair amount of money. I've only ever used an iPod nano but I'm already saving and preparing to buy an iPhone.
The fact that Apple builds all of their parts in America explains the mark-up as well as the overall satisfying performance of every product they make.
if I hear this fucking thing one more time Apple products are made in China, just like everything else. [editline]17th February 2011[/editline] As for me, I'm not a huge fan of Apple, but I can appreciate that the products they make look wonderful and perform the tasks they're assigned very well with nice ease of use. They do genuinely feel like premium products. That said, I don't appreciate Apple overpricing everything by a huge margin, their locking down of everything because according to them all their customers are braindead retards, and their general douchebag marketing/business strategies. I wouldn't get anything expensive like an iPhone or Macbook, but the iPod (and I say this without shame) is probably the best PMP on the planet. Except for the shuffle. Fuck that thing.

an iPhone costs like $1 or something ridiculous to make.

DD-WRT routers are the way to go.
an iPhone costs like $1 or something ridiculous to make.
A bit more than that from what I understand, but less than $10. They need to cover all expenses and manufacturing though, and still make a profit. The profit from the ridiculously expensive Apple products is used to research and develop more better products in the future. Which is why I never complain how Apple products cost a bit more, Cause they're worth it.
I love my iphone, but calling the ipod the best PMP on the market when it doesn't even have a customizable EQ is hilarious to me...
I barely use it for music/video anyway. Just light internet browsing and as something to play games on if I'm bored. Itunes is a fucking pain to work with if you want to put songs on it though. It's more like $150-250 to make one.
Now that is some good trolling.
How the fuck is the explanation of why the prices are so high trolling you fucking idiot. You really gotta be a cunt and complain about "trolling" every fucking post, people that come and complain about trolls are ten times worse than trolls anyway.
If you need to use anything besides the built in EQ selections, than you're probably a jerk...
All the EQ presets sound terrible. Using presets for an EQ is retarded in the first place though because that's something you should be adjusting based on what you are listening over and what you're listening to if you're touching it at all. [editline]18th February 2011[/editline] Also I love how people seem to like to think that apple is the only corporation that marks their products up to make a profit, as though that isn't the purpose of capitalism hahaha
I started with the iPod, went to iPhone and went and bought a macbook pro. It seems that many of the people that hates Apple-products haven't really given it a real try or are really prejudiced. For example a buddy of mine constantly hated mac's because he had to use some old iMac's at his school. Now he too is going to buy a Macbook. Each to their own I guess. I haven't really used the EQ function on any mp3 player I've had, since I've always used some expensive neutral headphones. Some headphones like the Koss PortaPros give you more bass, while other give you more treble etc.

Foxconn all the way up in this bitch.
You don't know too much about economy in general do you?
How? What I said isn't wrong, it's too blunt of a statement to be wrong. I didn't say they made a ton of margin, but they do push the prices a wee bit high to be able to turn a profit.

I don't think you have any sense of the prices to fabricate electronic devices nor the prices of raw components alone. You're also forgetting tons of money are also needs to go into the research team for developing and designing various hardware and software aspects of the device to begin with, as well as to enhance them as time progresses.
This whole why apple do this and do that is getting silly. Apple do sell products and try yo make a profit. It's a business it's what they do to make money. Stop giving the mind numbing user an excuse to post please *cough* Generic.Monk *cough*

That's about 5-3/4 routers a month given we aren't even 2 months into the year. And yes, on about 6 of those 8 routers I installed and configured dd-wrt to my liking. They just don't have the ability to produce the same nut busting signal throughout my entire house. I agree, I could've just settled with constant network problems and unsavory performance, but I decided to take the easy way out this time. I've never been happier with this decision. Apple products are made in America. God bless America :911:
