I am upgrading my gpu soon, will the difference between the 290 and the 280x really make that much of a difference at the moment other than the 100 dollar difference? Or should I scrap the idea all together and get a different card? I currently have a 6870
While the R9 290x is a great card but its still overkill. The 280x maxs out all games currently out with easy so.

A 280X will be the best if you are playing at 1080p, but if you play at like 1440p the 290 will be the one you want to get.
i actually have a 1600x900 monitor so i dont think that will be a problem
Well then a 290 is going to be overkill on a 1600x900 monitor just get a 280X like Neddy said.
and i get bf4 for free so yes
Got the sapphire 280x dual - x model, running at 1080p, you can max nearly every game whilst keeping a high fps. Running bf4 with every setting maxed, able to keep a nice 60fps. Only times it laggs is when the skyscraper collapses or during a few other of the levolution parts.
