• Ted Cruz Will Oversee NASA in New Congress
Following the ratification of Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) as chair of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committtee last week, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was named chair of the Subcommittee on Space, Science and Competitiveness, where he will oversee NASA and science programs. Appointed Jan. 8, Cruz is expected to be confirmed to the new role by the end of the month as one of many changes to the new Republican-controlled Congress. But the Republican senator's words and actions during his time in office have painted him to be a far cry from an advocate for the sciences, leaving many concerned about the future of space and science funding. Cruz's infamous hours-long speech in September 2013 led to a 16-day government shutdown barring 97 percent of NASA employees from appearing for work. Interns to the agency were temporarily displaced when the NASA-provided housing was closed during the shutdown, and many have said the agency suffered lasting damage due to the freeze.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/12/ted-cruz-nasa_n_6456270.html
No god please no, not a Republican. [added]1421125492[/added] No god please no, not a Republican.
Just because he's a Republican doesn't make immediately make him a terrible politician/person. Just because they have different views doesn't mean they are to be treated as lesser people. Both parties are equally bad in their own right. However, considering his track record, a better choice could have been made. Most republicans want into space like polan but haven't been able to get backing
Cruz is a piece of shit.
"if it ain't blowin' up no terrorists i ain't wanna see it" "uh senator we're building a moon base.." "..." "..to send moon-strikes.. "..." "..from the moon.." "..." "..at terrorists." "APPROVED."
No god please no, not a Republican. [added]1421125492[/added] No god please no, not a Republican.
Some neat little insight, here. (from Wiki: In 2001, US President George W. Bush appointed Tyson to serve on the Commission on the Future of the United States Aerospace Industry and in 2004 to serve on the President's Commission on Implementation of United States Space Exploration Policy, the latter better known as the "Moon, Mars, and Beyond" commission.) It's not the end of the world. That being said, Ted Cruz has been the second in line on this panel for awhile now and him taking it over wasn't unexpected. I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic until he starts actually doing bad things with it. (it's also a late thread: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1446000 )

Republicans are generally in seats that represent states that have a vested interest in space and aeronautic programs for economic reasons. I've found more Democrats saying "why are we spending money up there when there are people down here that are in need?" Republicans have their own anti-science streak but not when the science fills their coffers.
However, considering his track record, a better choice could have been made.
My thirty year old pickup would have been a better choice. Most of us aren't hating on him because he's GOP, we're hating on him because he's a goddamned idiot that things the only solution to any governmental problem is budget cuts and 'let them fend for themselves'.
HEY I POSTED THIS FIRST but it's okay I guess [editline]13th January 2015[/editline] Let's tell him there's vast reserves of oil on the moon and mars [editline]13th January 2015[/editline] And no Muslims!
