• Pokemon GO down: Hackers claim responsibility
A hacking group has claimed responsbility for taking down the Pokémon Go servers using a DDOS attack. A cyber collective known as PoodleCorp announced on Twitter it was behind the action, but this claim is yet to be verified. The account also retweeted a post by a user claiming to be the leader of PoodleCorp.

"Just was a lil test, we will do something on a larger scale soon," said the post by user XO.
Source Wonder what "larger scale" means? Buncha edge lords.
once again hack != DDOS.
once again hack != DDOS.
DDoS is still hacking, it's just really baby-tier hacking.
DDoS is still hacking, it's just really baby-tier hacking.
... it's not hacking.
hacking is bypassing security of a server using exploits and viruses, etc ddossing is just crashing a server with just a spam of data from multiple sources
DDoS is still hacking, it's just really baby-tier hacking.
It's not hacking at all
DDoS is still hacking, it's just really baby-tier hacking.
Hacking is gaining access to the computer's data network, Denial of Service is spamming the network with requests until it can no longer handle any new more requests, causes overload and leaves network inaccessible for any more clients.
A DDOS can happen with just the touch of a button, a hack is actually you know requires a little bit more actions per minute.
Why do "cyber collectives" always have these stupid names, especially related to some sort of animal.
Why do "cyber collectives" always have these stupid names, especially related to some sort of animal.
Furries.
Why do "cyber collectives" always have these stupid names, especially related to some sort of animal.
Consider the type of person who decides it's funny to ruin a load of people's fun in a way which breaks the law but requires little intelligence yet makes them feel powerful.
Pretty sure their 'attack' happened on the same day it was released in 26 more countries, more like the servers couldn't handle the influx of new players. Servers are down tonight though and I hope it isn't an attack "/
Well they cost me a Lickitung and a Lapras and they also made me get out of the house for no reason so I hope they achieved some sort of self-satisfaction.
Who knew that we would have a lot of cool tech in the 2010s, but the one thing that would be lame would be hacking. Literally just pressing a button and doing nothing.
Who knew that we would have a lot of cool tech in the 2010s, but the one thing that would be lame would be hacking. Literally just pressing a button and doing nothing.
Hacking can be pretty fuckin' cool. DDOSing never was.
They are just taking credit for the servers going down right after the game was released in 26 countries, when the servers were already struggling before that. And the internet is sure lapping it up, making the "hackers" e-peen harder than ever.
why do we need "hackers" when the servers do a fine enough job of going down themselves
Why do "cyber collectives" always have these stupid names, especially related to some sort of animal.
It's just something intrinsic to infosec communities. They don't have to play by the same rules as other professionals because of what they do and because they're frequently anonymous.
Furries.
no
... it's not hacking.
Exploitation of vulnerability in computer systems is definitely hacking. Just because it doesn't involve much skill doesn't mean it's not hacking, imo.
hacking is bypassing security of a server using exploits and viruses, etc ddossing is just crashing a server with just a spam of data from multiple sources
And cracking passwords is just running hashcat on a spam of hashes.. Just because you're not impressed by it doesn't mean it's not literally hacking. [editline]17th July 2016[/editline]
Hacking is gaining access to the computer's data network, Denial of Service is spamming the network with requests until it can no longer handle any new more requests, causes overload and leaves network inaccessible for any more clients.
There are a lot of contemporary definitions of hacking and I prefer the "exploitation of computer systems" definition over the "unauthorized access to a system" one. I get why people don't consider DDoS hacking but I think it's a little bit coming from a place of "well DDoS is stupid and not cool like other hacking so let's just call it something else". Almost like a No True Scotsman for computer geeks?
Servers are just down because of load, so script kiddies are trying to claim the honor. It's very noticeable that it's because of load, because the servers just straight-up died when Americans woke up today + people in Europe were going outside. Before that, it was fine.
