(CNN) - For the first time, a bee species in the continental United States has been declared endangered by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
The rusty patched bumblebee is in worrisome decline and it is a race to keep it from becoming extinct, the agency said.
"Listing the bee as endangered will help us mobilize partners and focus resources on finding ways right now to stop the decline," Wildlife Service Midwest Regional Director Tom Melius said.
The population of the rusty patched bumblebee has shrunk by 87% since the late 1990s, the wildlife service said.
The species joins seven species of yellow-faced bees found in Hawaii on the endangered list. It is one of 47 bumblebee species in North America.
Well this isn't good.
fuck, i thought i'd been seeing less of the adorable little guys
this is VERY bad
edit: actually not sure if this is the kind of bumble bee i usually see
still bad tho
Can we alter the title to specify that this is a type of bumblebee, not all bumblebees
If "We are number one" made people donate shitloads to cancer research, hopefully these Bee Movie memes also have the power to do good

Bee disease, but every time researchers make progress to stop it, they have to read the entirety of the Bee Movie script.

Breaking: All bees now extinct, Scientists blame youtube
Does this have more to do with people killing bees or a lack of nature/wildlife conservation?
Theres little mite fuckers that parasite off the bees and kill them
But bees are great, bumblebees are fucking adorable little bastards.
Ohh, and really fucking important to the environment.
This is awful.
Considering how much bees contribute to the environment as pollinators, even if it's a single species, I find this worrisome.
Thanks to whoever edited my topic.
I wonder how other populations of bees are doing?

I wonder how other populations of bees are doing?
haven't invasive asian hornets been murdering european bees for a while now, what's the latest news on that?
Oh no, bumblebees are the more resistant honey producer too. They work much longer than honeybees.
Please don't let the cute fluffballs die out...
This is the reason I planted a lot of flowering plants in my back yard over the last few years, as well as letting patches grow wild with wildflowers. My backyard is always full of lovely bumble bees, they spent the entire summer in my yard. It was a sanctuary, no one around me has a similar garden for them.
Reminder of what the future might be if bees go extinct.
