Yes. You can now. But please don't. The player is awful, it alienates mobile users that aren't using the awful official app, it creates haven for freebooted videos, and is generally just unnecessary.

Also bear in mind Reddit has never made a profit and its worth half a punt they will pull this service when it turns out it only makes their financial hole even worse.

Whats wrong with the app? I've been using it for months on my iPhone and haven't found any serious issues with it.

I have no point using the reddit app if I don't actively use reddit
I only visit it from a web search technically, if I continue browsing, and it's web player it trash tier, than it's a problem

Just did my own test
It just using the standard html video player from the browser
it's fine
the only issue is the pop-up saying 'best viewed in browser'
but this is better than the snackbar that appears asking me to install the application, which is only closed from a small button, now it's a big boy button

It's far inferior to any popular 3rd party app. I mean, take AlienBlue. It was an iOS app for Reddit that many users stood by, but eventually at some point Reddit acquired it, so it became the official app for iOS. This continued for a while, Then Reddit released their official app for Android and iOS, and killed AlienBlue. Why is this relevant? Because even though AlienBlue has been dead for a year, there is still a large userbase for it, despite the fact you can't even download it anymore, and despite the fact it hasn't even got an update in close to 2 years., because it is simply far better.
Android is a similar situation where BaconReader, Reddit is Fun, Reddit Sync, Slide, etc, are all superior. But now Reddit decided to say fuck you, if you want new features you have to use our app, until 3rd party developers work out our undocumented video system. It's just hamfisted and wrong.

Except on desktop, that sucks. Because it's a really damn tiny window, or fullscreen. I don't want either, I want, say, Youtube where I can have a good blend that actually works. I shouldn't have to use 3rd party browser addons to fix this. Not to mention, playback sucks. I have a 60Mbit down connection, in Australia. You'd think that would be perfect for this? It's not. 30 second long videos stutter like crazy. It's an awful experience that's half-baked and half-engineered without any real geographic distribution considerations.
This makes Reddit even more of a one stop shop for porn now. Piracy will be through the roof.
Cbf snipping
I remember tumblr also having really bad video distribution systems too for playing videos here. You could be waiting up to a minute for a very short video to load since it there is no location cache or cdn
I really don't get reddits logic in this. The only video content creation communities that will benefit this is the porn subreddits. Otherwise, you're going to get all the same shit that's uploaded to places like Streamable like illegal distribution of TV shows and Sports highlights.
What a waste of money. Leave that shit to the dedicated video sites like YouTube, Pornhub, Erome, Vimeo, etc. I really hope they enjoy the hundreds of terabytes of guys cumming on /r/tributeme pictures and figurines.

Just install RES. If resize function is not there yet it will be soon. I don't know how anyone can use reddit without RES.

I do. But I shouldn't have to because I'm going to get better functionality out of Youtube anyway.

The app works and is fine but it sucks compared to everything else.
I personally use Narwhal and I love it.
