Need advice on building a gaming rig with a budget of $900

I've been thinking about upgrading for a long time now, and now that I have a reasonable amount of cash($900) I was thinking of building my new rig myself instead of buying new. But, I've never built a computer before and I have absolutely no idea what processor is better, how much RAM is good, etc. I would like something that can run most games with 40 or more FPS, if possible. Windows 7 is preferred. As for cases, I don't want anything fancy, but something that has adequate room for parts and decent ventilation. I don't need any monitors, keyboards, mice, or speakers. I would prefer if I could buy the parts at a store instead of ordering them online. I live in south-western Ontario, if that matters.
I apologize if I didn't give enough information or I did something wrong, it's my first time posting in this particular sub-forum and I don't particularly know how things work here.

This'll do you fine for $900.
You get an unlocked quad-core CPU (unlocked meaning you can overclock it) as well as an overclocking-capable motherboard and CPU cooler to keep it cool. You also have a GTX 760 which should be able to run most things at high or ultra and still stay over 60FPS. And you have an SSD for your Windows installation and programs, and a 1TB HDD for files/games. And lastly you get a decent amount of RAM, a more than capable power supply, and a great bang for your buck case.

Thanks for the information, I really appreciate it. I'll check some computer shop websites and see if they have those parts anywhere near me.

If you take away overclocking potential(cheaper motherboard, no cooler) by choosing the non-K model you could upgrade that GPU to a 280X which is significantly better.
It's not like the i5 will bottleneck anything for quite some time

I hate to bug you again, but I noticed that there are two items in the storage section on that list. Do I need both of those, or could I use only one?

You can use either, I was just suggesting you install Windows on the SSD for additional speed. And leave the games and files on the HDD to save space for programs or whatever on the SSD.
