Post-rock is probably the most beautiful genres in the history of music.
But pie? What the fuck is post-rock?
Post-rock is a genre of music where the band members use rock instruments, to create something that's completely different than rock, wikipedia says. The outcome is something similar to ambient, classical, and experimental music. In other words, it's great to listen to.
Where the fuck did post-rock come from?
Some say the first post-rock is Talk Talk's Laughing Stock. In their early years they just made cheesy new-wave music. You may know their song "It's my life" or more likely, No Doubt's note for note cover of it. In the late 80's they said "fuck that!"and went into a completely different style of music. A strange, sparse style with some jazz influence in it too. This sound later became known as post-rock.
But that doesn't make any fucking sense? Doesn't post-rock have to come after rock has died out?
Post-punk originated around the same time as punk did. It's just a name. It was actually coined by a Simon Reynolds in his review for Bark Psychosis's Hex.
So what albums of this fucking genre would you recommend?
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
Slint - Spiderland
Sigur Ros - Ágætis byrjun
Explosions In The Sky - The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
Bark Psychosis - Hex
Mogwai - Mogwai Young Team
Labradford - Labradford or Mi Media Naranja
If you have any suggestions for this list please tell me
Fuck that shit I want to listen to some fucking songs
Alrighty then.

I actually never heard of Labradford. Any album you'd like to recommend?
Their self-titled album and Mi Media Naranja are probably the best.

God is an astronaut is another but I don't really listen to them
[editline]12:22AM[/editline]
I'd say godspeed was the first full-fledged post rock band but that's just me
The only reason why I don't listen to godspeed is because of their awful name and album titles
I remember efrim saying in an interview that he had long song and album names because he didn't care for making short catchy names to fit with choruses and the like. He wanted the songs to have a name that fit with the song.
At least they don't use "trying real hard to be witty" emo song names.
Okay I might listen to them now
You're description of post-rock still doesn't define what post-rock is.

Man, this is the worst reason I've ever heard.

Can you come up with anything better? I must admit I made this thread in sort of a hurry to go to bed.
The fact that this thread mentions Bark Psychosis makes me :3

How is post hardcore "ghey"
I like bands that mix post-rock with (real) screamo.
Stuff like this:

I'd say it's more like post rock mixed with pop, which defeats the purpose of post rock.
Well whatever you wanna call it, I like it.
Can you come up with anything better? I must admit I made this thread in sort of a hurry to go to bed.
Actually no, because I don't get it.
Well it's like rock, except post.
:golfclap:
I'd say it's more like post rock mixed with pop, which defeats the purpose of post rock.
what is the purpose of post rock exactly?
Good fucking use of the word fuck... fuck
nice fucking thread
A++
what is the purpose of post rock exactly?
to "be" a form of rock evolved past what it is currently, or not to sound like pop rock/music in other words.
That's what I think at least. Post usually just means "more depressing than (X)" though.
Kind of makes sense
Joy Division, very depressing
Thursday, very depressing
Explosions In the Sky is like, music to kill yourself too
