Optimism being used for what it's meant to be used for. But why is it always the smaller guys who understand this?
Optimism being used for what it's meant to be used for. But why is it always the smaller guys who understand this?
Because while the developers of videogames understand the internet, the publishers' legal team doesn't.
It would be cool if he had a way of find out how many of this downloads were converted in sales.
I dont see piracy as someting a indie studio must blame or be worried of, A game will always get pirated no matter what now, instead if its a GOOD game it will sell
heh that's great
“Yeah, it’s really hilarious,”
That's more than what could be said about the game itself.
Its a small game and likely to be seeded by everyone
Westbergh writes a lot of features on Gamasutra. Coffee Stain is: - Anti-DLC after Sanctum 2 and going for free updates instead - Considering pirates as people who weren't planning on buying the game anyway - Pushing for workshop support in their future projects. They're a smart group of people balancing arpu and the feedback from fans.
Smaller/Indie studios probably see it as positive at first because it raises awareness of the game. They are more willing to believe that someone who pirates their game and enjoyed it will eventually buy it. I'm guessing that in Goat Simulator's case that there were a lot of people on the fence about it, but seeing as it was so pirated now more people at least know about it.

You can't really compare a small startup indie company who don't have as much invested in their product and stand to gain a ton of free publicity for saying "pirates are okay :)" to a larger company that actively employs dozens of people and has to make sure they stay profitable so they can keep making games
well i mean not many people i know want to spend $10 on a joke
I didn't pirate it but the game really isn't worth actual money. I can't blame the pirates tbh.
Games get pirated or sold, good games get pirated then sold.
It's quite honestly just a game not worth buying. I haven't pirated it myself, but just looking at it I already would argue it's hardly worth checking out free.

this must be the first instance of a game developer literally not wanting sales
The reason I bought it was that I thought it'd might be fun for an hour or so, and it would support a dev that I really like.
this must be the first instance of a game developer literally not wanting sales
well its not like it was developed for selling in the first place, they didnt put in much development time once they decided to push it beyond a prototype
That's more than what could be said about the game itself.
Seeing as the game doesn't have anything going for it aside from humor, I'd say the sales state otherwise.
