A pickup truck driver collided with a bicyclist near Redwood City, CA, and both were drunk, authorities said Tuesday.
Jose Luna, 40, of Redwood City was turning from northbound El Camino Real onto Berkshire Avenue in his Ford F-150 pickup truck when he struck bicyclist Alejandro Chavez, 31, of Redwood City at about 11 p.m. Saturday, the California Highway Patrol said.
Chavez, who had been riding against traffic while pedaling in a northbound lane, suffered a broken back and leg, the CHP said.
Both men were drunk, authorities said.
Luna pleaded not guilty Monday in San Mateo County Superior Court to drunken driving. He has a prior DUI conviction, authorities said.
Chavez was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, an infraction, said District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
I laughed so hard.
Honestly, there is nothing else too say.
my uncle got a DUI on a lawn mower last year.
A friend of mine got a B.U.I. (Biking Under the Influence) in College.
It was pretty funny, but he still got a $150 ticket!
If a drunk driver crashed into another drunk driver (both in cars) they'd both get DUIs too
Bicycles are vehicles, this isn't news

What is the statistical likelihood of a drunk driver striking a drunk bicyclist?
What is news?

no fun allowed!
you aren't allowed to laugh at the irony of this story only politically correct stories please in my forum!
I wonder how they confronted each other after the crash.
You can be charged with drunk driving in Missouri if you're riding a horse and have alcohol in your system that exceeds or is directly at .08. Bikes are a new one to me, though.
Riding a bicycle drunk must take a lot of skill.

Honestly? It's not that hard. It's more difficult riding one while stoned. You keep losing focus on actually riding it and try to hug trees instead.
Man, if I got hit by a car while biking under the influence I'd probably just end up wine-ing.

I'm sure the bicyclist was spineless.

I never hugged a tree when I was high.

So very much.
I was hit by a DUI hedge while driving my bike once.

Bicycles are vehicles. They are motorcycles without engines. That's why there is often separate bicycle lanes and an improperly rode one can cause as many problems as a car.

It does, I broke 3 fingers when I tried. Was biking home after a house party, decided to try and take a shortcut through an alleyway. I was picking up some speed, the alleyway was pretty dark which meant I couldn't see the metal bollards designed to stop motorbikes and went straight into them. Fun times.
