Hey FP. Are Quad Cores processors just better than Duo core processors? I'm talking Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00 GHz 6MB S-775 vs. Intel Core 2Quad Q8300 2.5GHz 4MB S-775. Which would be better to get?
If you do stuff that can utilize quad-threads (photoshop, premiere), then get the quad. If you mainly game (TF2, other single-threaded stuff), then get the duo.
Unless you plan to play heavy games get a duo. Like leach said get a Quad if you gonna utilize more heavy tasking.
No, the E8400 is much better than any 8-series quad.
I need it to play atleast GTA IV, and then edit and handle alot of huge JPG and RAW files.
No, the E8400 is much better than any 8-series quad.
This. GTAIV uses only 3 cores and not fully. GTAIV is more GPU demanding.
No, the E8400 is much better than any 8-series quad.
This. If you learn about OCing an E8xxx is definitely worth it, get it to 4GHz with a good cooler and you're set for games. If not, I'd look into getting a new phenom II 955 instead.
This. GTAIV uses only 3 cores and not fully. GTAIV is more GPU demanding.
No, GTA IV is much more CPU-intensive than GPU-intensive.
No, GTA IV is much more CPU-intensive than GPU-intensive.
I get 80% CPU use on my crappy AMD X2 and 99% GPU use with 8800GTS in benchmark so no.
:eng99: A good CPU is much more important than a good GPU for maxing out GTA IV.
GPU, CPU. wat
GPU, CPU. wat
GPU = Graphics Processing Unit CPU = Central Processing Unit
GPU = Graphics Processing Unit CPU = Central Processing Unit
So GPU is gfx card? and CPU is that Dual/Quad core thing?
Yes.....
So GPU is gfx card? and CPU is that Dual/Quad core thing?
Exactly The CPU is basically the brain of the computer.
Exactly The CPU is basically the brain of the computer.
Okay, so would this be able to run it at a decent framerate? http://fcomputer.dk/?show=system_show&systemlinkid=77576
It's a lot cheaper if you build it yourself. Go check out some tutorials and see if you think you can.
Money really isn't the problem. But to be honest I'd really, really like to be able to build it myself. I think that computer hardware etc. is a really cool hobby!
Exactly The CPU is basically the brain of the computer.
I thought that would be the Motherboard?
Anyways, as much as I'd like to get into the subject of computer building, I think I'll wait untill I have to upgrade a part in my computer or something. Building a computer from scratch is a pretty big step to take imo, and I don't care if I have to pay a bit more to have it assembled and sent.
This. GTAIV uses only 3 cores and not fully. GTAIV is more GPU demanding.
Get your facts straight boy [editline]08:19PM[/editline]
I thought that would be the Motherboard?
The motherboard is more like the body
I thought that would be the Motherboard?
That would be the base. Or since we're using anatomy terms. It's the veins.

Try every hole, if it doesn't fit, it doesn't go there.
Ferosso, the hardest part is getting the mobo hooked up. And you could easily have that assembled and STILL save money. REMEMBER, pre-assembled always costs more. Go for individual pieces from one site (newegg :D), and put it together yourself.
That would be the base. Or since we're using anatomy terms. It's the veins.
Nerves actually Veins and arteries would only apply if you had water cooling
The motherboard would be like the spinal cord/nervous system (without the brain).
This. GTAIV uses only 3 cores and not fully. GTAIV is more GPU demanding.
Try 4 cores, at around 70-90% Utilization per core
If you want any hope of running GTA IV with good frame rates, get a quad. My friend has a E8400 and a GTX 260 and he gets like 20 FPS on medium settings. My other friend has a Phenom 9950 and a 9800 GT and gets 30-40 FPS on high settings.
