About a month ago, my friend drew this Menga inspired picture: I asked If I could borrow it and Re-do it /do it up on the computer. I saved each of the major stages and will show them. I did this over a series of 3 days, this is because, for colouring, I used Gimp's 3rd/2nd smallest brush much like a pencil. Stage 1 Just the outlines, a few touch-ups. Stage 2 First colored version. Skin is too pale for some of my friends. Stage 3 Changed the skin, added shading. (Supposed) Final Stage (no blur) Fixed some shading issues, Smoothed skin coloring. (Supposed) Final Stage (with my poor attempt at DOF) Added DOF TO DO: Reduce visibility of nipples through dress. Various little things. Improve shading to reduce flat-ness. Dull colors to stop Xerios' bleeding eyes. Fuck the proportions I'm leaving them Now for the NSFW stuff: Yes, I made a nude version, and yes, my friend knows. 2 Stages so far: Stage 1 Nude sketch. Stage 2 Colored nude version. Needs a lot of work, this was mainly copied from the first one, and most of the body needs completely re-doing, EG the breasts are still in the confined position of the dress. I hope to finish these and to a version in lingerie, probably with a different color scheme. In fact I hope to do at least 1 other color scheme with the other two. And also, don't bug me about the lack of arms. I only just realized how small the pictures are, I drew them all at 2-4x zoom. C&C appreciated.
The shading needs to be improved. Some parts she just looks flat with a protrusion coming out.
AHHHW GOD, the proportions !! The colors !! MY EYEESSSS ARE BLEEDING
Damn you guys are fast. Updating OP with suggestions.
So much to say... I'll just shut up.
looks like a poorly made anime version of leela from futurama
Where's the other eye???
Sorry, but tell your friend just because they draw Anime style does not automatically make them a good artist. I know this from personal experience. Try finding an artist you really like and look at what makes their stuff great, you'll learn a lot. Personally I really like the work of VyrL on DeviantArt, her art's gorgeous and incredibly inspiring. Heres some advice. First off, you need to start with construction lines, you may not give a crap about proportion, but you're not the only one you're trying to please. Th construction lines can be as simple or complex as you like, as long as you can see your character molding round those lines, it doesn't matter if their box-shaped or a tight fit to your character. Now, with a darker brush start to add features as to what your character may look like. The problem that you are having is that you're refering to an already badly drawn drawing, you need to think outside the box instead of drawing a slightly better version of a sketch. On a new layer, clean up the lines, this was only a 10 minute job so it ain't perfect. And whatever you do, don't draw the nipples under the clothing, no female (as much as we'd like to) has nipples sticking out that much through clothing, especially through a bra that you've drawn. Then make a new layer under the lineart and simply colour, your colour palette it very weird, but I went off yours just for the sake of this tutorial. Now, shading isn't my thing but I know that bevel and emboss isn't the right way. What I do is appy a texture over it, I normally do this much better. But atleast it isn't an eyesore. Oooor you can totally ignore this and go with whatever. Just trying to offer some advice.
No. Ditch manga and go back to traditional. Only thing you can do. Ignore everyone who tells you to continue, just go back to traditional.

Whats 'menga'? Anyway follow advice and fix you're proportions, look over a few tutorials.
Absolutely not. Your manga proportions are terrible, and so is the coloring. Leave this for another day, and resume the art that everyone appreciates.
Shading is lolworthy
Ok I'm sorry, please bear in mind I did not draw this, although I may pass this on to my friend that did. Thank you for your usual level of compassion in this section, although I wouldn't have it any other way.
Look up some tutorials on how other artists do shading. This looks like something I did in 5th or 6th grade.
Your "friend" should study a lot of anatomy.
Your "friend" should study a lot of anatomy.
flawless victory

Are you sure you didn't draw this?
Enough with manga...traditional for the sake of all that is holy...
this looks like a little kid did it
