The California Highway Patrol’s airborne officers usually fly over highways to survey ground traffic, but on Tuesday, officers dealt with a concern closer to home: a man flying his plane while allegedly intoxicated.
Two CHP air officers were patrolling Highway 37 in Sonoma County around 4 p.m. when they noticed a small, blue and gold, single-engine sport plane flying dangerously low to the ground — an estimated 50 feet when regulations require at least 500.
Officers followed the plane, a 2011 Aerotrek, until it landed at Petaluma Municipal Airport. Officers were talking to the pilot and owner, a 62-year-old man, when they noticed alcohol on his breath, said CHP flight Officer Jeff Moring.
Field sobriety tests indicated the pilot was drunk. He was arrested on suspicion of reckless flying and operating an aircraft under the influence. His name has not been released.[/release]
Wow. There's even air police
Wonder what his BAC was. It's not easy at all to land a plane safely while intoxicated, so I can't imagine it'd be very high.
Niko! Let's go drinking!
After flying a bunch a lot of landing becomes muscle memory. But yeah, the idea of flying under the influence of anything is pretty scary.
Sorry sir, you were doing 400 in a 350mph zone.
thank god he didn't try to pull over

Parking a car is probably muscle memory too, but if I tried to park while drunk I'm pretty sure I'd hit something.
Can you imagine how awesome that must feel? :v:
You know you fucked up when you land and a police unit is landing behind you.
I wonder what would happen if he had sped off..
Fly into the control tower or a skyscraper.
How did they pull him over?
I bet flying drunk felt awesome
This is the Air Police, land your plane at the next landing strip, which is in Arizona.
I wonder if the ATC noticed anything
"HEyyyyyyyy Petalumaaa ATC. I need a piss reeaaall bad. Mind if I use your runway?"
"Uh BK1723 can you repeat that?"
"I need to jettison some liquid if you know what I mean ehhehehe"
"BK1723 you're not cleared to land"
"COMIN' IN HOT ATC"
This is exactly how I imagine it
Flying while drunk sounds scary as hell, when I first flew it was fun but I got pretty nervous, can't imagine what it would be like while drunk.
