Flood Fears After Giant Hail Lashes Melbourne
Gregor Hunter, Sky News Online
Torrential rains and gigantic hailstones have lashed Australia, flooding the city of Melbourne and bursting riverbanks further north.
Melbourne was hit by a thunderstorm which brought hailstones the size of marbles and drenched the city with 19mm of rain in the first 18 minutes.
The Australian Weather Bureau has issued flood warnings for parts of the state of Victoria but the ferocity of the storm, which has been likened to a "mini-cyclone", has taken many by surprise.
The storm broke at 2.40pm local time, with knee-deep rains and strong winds catching many shoppers in the city centre.
The gale was so intense it tore a hole in the roof of a railway station, leading to its evacuation.
The torrents led to the cancellation of local football fixtures and horse races, and were expected to continue throughout the evening.
Meanwhile, in the nothern province of Queensland, the Weather Bureau said "monsoon conditions" had led to serious flooding and a state of emergency was declared.
One town in the area, Lajamanu, has even been hit by a shower of falling fish, which weathermen said was most likely scooped out of a stream by a passing tornado.
Yesterday, Melbourne, Australia, was barraged with an unusually massive storm. including hail up to golfball size. many Melbourne landmarks were damaged, with sports stadium roofs jamming up and collapsing, and the roof of the multi-million dollar southern cross station collapsed, much to the predictions of many engineers.
luckily, i was out of town camping when this occurred, but night bacame day with constant sheet lightening lighting up the enitre sky:

This may look like a cloudy day taken with a bad camera, but this is actually 11:34 PM at night at my camp site, the sky lit-up with lightening. and upon return i find my satellite dish warped, and my sky-lights full of holes D:
PS: If the massive-but-inferior thunderstorms that happend earlier this year got a thread, i'm sure this one does.
hail the size of fish balls. Well it could have been the size of minivans
Damn, you Aussies have stones.
We've had hail the size of golf balls before, but it didn't break any windows.
Did Australia ban glass or something? Are car windscreens made out of paper?

Or even worse, your mother! :iceburn:
The gods are angry at Australia for being a fascist country.

Fully loaded minivans.
I thought the title said "Haiti is now banned in Australia."
I feel bad for who owns that car.
All hail Australia
Last time i got hail that big was in Kansas and it was only for a few minutes. Then a tornado ripped though the middle of town. *Shakes Fist* Dented the hood of my jeep =(

Australia isn't a fascist country. Our censors are a bit too tight on videogames, and the internet, will NOT end up being censored, you have no understanding of how the Australian government works, so shut up. It's only a proposal that went past the first stage.
Culturally, At least from what i see, America is far more fascist. Politically correct to the point where it's bullshit.
I'm fucking tired of this 'australias banned' shit. If we banned video games all together, I'd still rather live here than in America.

Luckily I'm not in the city and only got heavy rain for a quarter of an hour. Didn't even know there was hail until I checked the news.
