I've got an 8 year old set of Logitech PC Speakers, that are some of the best damn things I've ever heard. However, after recently getting a new desk, I've nowhere to put the subwoofer, other than the floor. My music tends to be quite heavy, and living at home, this tends to have a negative effect.
Essentially, the lagre subwoofer is connected via a standard Phono/RCA Cable. I've got 3 of these that I don;t need, and depending how it goes, I want to solder 1/2/3 of these to the existing phono cable. I'd like to put it on a shelf the other side of the room.
On inspection, the cable I want to use to extend has a thick copper shielding, and the internal core that transmits the signal is of great quality and extremely dense. These are all the same, as they're from an old Nintendo Wii TV connector.
if I cut the cable attatched to the speakers, and solder the one I want to use to extend the cable, will this work, and will the quality of sound be reduced?
I hope this makes sense, because I need to know to avoid serious injury!
It should work, yes. Will audio quality suffer? maaaaaybe, but if it does it probably won't be noticeable unless the solder joints are crap.
Honestly though, what would be easier than soldering would be these

Slightly reduced sound quality, but it will be hard to notice on a dedicated subwoofer.
I would just buy a longer cable, or use connectors. I've extended several wires with connectors and they still sound just as good.
