This was really a project I started around two years ago, but I only finished making the breastplate and the two Faulds that hang off the belt over the thighs. But now, with the use of 3D Max and my new Plasma cutter I can make this stuff extremely fast. Right now I'm using this as a sort of practice project to build up an understanding of converting 3D models to steel sculptures/armour and because I don't have enough money to build the other project I was planning on making (For now, maybe in 3-4 months). I also have a T-Rex head I'm working on, I'll get a picture of that next time I go out.
Anyway, for those who may not be familiar or can't remember what they look like:

So far I have the Helmet, Greaves, Breastplate and Faulds and Belt mostly done, just a few minor details and changes I want to make but the hard part is over for them.

Next I'll be planishing the Greaves to remove the points left over from their origin as a 3D model and make them smoother and more rounded.
I'm also going to weld a thick wire around the edges of the Helmet, both to make it safer and more comfortable to wear and to strengthen the edges against denting.
Both the Greaves and the Breastplate will have snaps to strap them in place too, the Greaves are held on by one strap which wraps around the back of the leg and the Breastplate is held on at the top of the shoulders by two straps on either side. The Breastplate also has two straps at the bottom which connect to a box on the belt like the buckles in a car.
I won't have enough steel to actually finish it entirely until next month because I need to use the unused sheets I have already to manufacture some products to sell at two upcoming events.
That's pretty badass
now get an aussie to wear it

that breast plate looks perfect too
Not a big fan of Halo but this looks amazing so far.
Steel? Are you nuts? This thing is going to be heavy as... well... steel!
Looks like you won't have a ton of flexibility in the shin guard areas which might be uncomfortable.
Looks interesting though.

That's also what they said about knights
No worries, I may be short (Only 5 and a half feet tall and 125 pounds) but I'm strong and used to carrying heavy rifles/muskets and wearing heavy armour. The shin guards are actually surprisingly easy to wear and they don't interfere with my knees or my ankles. They also fit around my calves rather nicely without me feeling like my leg is being clamped in a vise like with my Roman greaves. The same goes for the Breastplate, when I first made it I was amazed at just how well it distributed energy over my entire torso rather than just on my ribs, I even allowed a friend to smack me in the chest with a sledgehammer. That said the Breastplate is made of 12 gauge steel while the Greaves and Helmet are made of 16 gauge steel so it is very solidly built.
I've also been pondering how the action on a MA5B might work. The problem is the bolt doesn't completely clear over the top of the magazine, meaning if it used a traditional bolt like an AR15 it would be unable to chamber a new round. I do have an idea on how to overcome this but I haven't tried it in practice yet. I also checked it and the MA5B with the magazine used by the rifle in-game can only hold 25 rounds of 7.62x51mm.
You ought to do the Halo ODST trailer armour ,that stuff is awesome.
Or to fulfil lmy 40K side, Cadian Armour or Stormtrooper armour.
I do have some partial patterns for some Imperial Guard armour but they aren't complete enough to actually make a full suit, though I'd like to do so eventually.
Holy fucking shit... I just cummed buckets of gold.
I command you to stop making such awesome things.

Why would you do that D:
Hooooly fuckin shit!

Makin me jealous n shit
Wow that is amazing craftsmanship there.
RR_Raptor! You're back with the sexiness that is your crafted galore! I'm glad. :v:

Yea, and they needed 4 men to pick them up and put them on their horses and when they fell off, the enemy would merely stroll up and stick a dagger up their groin and let them bleed out.
Make me a set of Aliens Marine armor NOW!
I don't even like Halo but that looks pretty badass.
Oh man, you're back! :D This looks epic already.
I was hopeing it was you and your badass metal working skills, keep it up!
Damn, pretty awesome.
I want a machine like that so I could make a spider big dady suit.
Give me your patience/metalworking skill and equipment now please.

Not true, a well made suit will allow you to do anything you can do normally without armour. If you just put all the armour in a bag and tried to lift it, yeah it'd feel heavy, but when you're wearing it you barely notice the weight at all.
Make me a set of Aliens Marine armor NOW!
That was actually my first consideration, but I decided that there were too many small details that I wouldn't be able to do right, and I'm not going to make it unless I can make it 100% movie authentic.
With this Halo armour the low detail of the models give me some freedom to fill in the blanks that were otherwise impossible for the original graphics of the time.
Besides, if I wait, I can buy a Thompson and build a live firing, full auto M41A Pulse Rifle eventually, something I can't do with the Halo MA5B since I'd need a super expensive firearms manufacturing license even though I'd only make one or two automatics for personal use.
I love it when people like you actually spend time on their costumes, and make them look good. Unlike these people:
LOL
wow thats awesome

That's the biggest thing that bugs me about cosplay is people who don't actually try.
I didn't realize how worn out I was until I got out there and started trying to hammer out the kinks in those greaves. I guess I'll take the day off and work on em again tomorrow. I know one thing though, next time I'll add some extra segments so I don't have to spend so much time trying to dish out the flats.
I'm putting this on hold until July. Some blueprints I'd been waiting for finally arrived after over a month and while I'm kind of disappointed with them they'll help otherwise.
The reason for this is I need about $300 in some special plywood and high quality spruce and the second sheet of steel I need to cut the rest of the armour pieces will cost me $50. July is the cutoff point if I can't make a $300 profit, but I'm sure that I can. Granted if I can make that $300 and then still be able to buy another sheet of steel for personal use I'll be able to start sooner.
But I still have the Greaves to work on, I finished planishing one front piece and just need to work on the other and then planish the back pieces. The Helmet and Greaves are the two hardest parts, so that's why I did them first, the rest will be really easy to do once I get to them, but there's bigger fish to fry.
Someday, please make an iron man suit. Have it as your coffin and eject yourself into space. Freak out aliens.
Or at least use the awesomness that is this to do an partial iron man suit. Maybe just the helmet. But it has to glow. And slide open sexily. That is all.

the very spirit of american cosplay is half-assery and duct-tape swords! :black101:
that's half the fun of cons, is seeing costumes so bad, they're good.
